Re: Barrett MRAD 338 LAPUA
.338LM as a cartridge is excellent for shooting out to a mile or so. It's grown significantly in popularity over the last 8 years and rifles/ammo are now widely available. It's definitely on the pricey side to feed and people who aren't prepared to spend that kind of money (especially if they will be relying on factory ammo) should instead look at a .300WM or similar cartridge.
As for the MRAD, compared to the rest of Barrett's rifles, it's definitely a standout. It seems like they took the time to get this one right, though personally I think it's over priced. The biggest let down with the rifle is the lack of available conversion kits. The community keeps getting teased with images of .308 and .300WM kits, but they're still vaporware. That's why a lot of folks who've been looking for a multi-cal rifle have gone the DTA or AI route, with a wide variety of cartridges already supported and widely available.
It remains to be seen when Barrett will get this sorted, but until then I think it's a good rifle that's a bit stunted.
