First day deer hunting and Shyla kills a 4X3 Mule deer at 125 yards.
We started early getting on a field 1 hour before sunup. As the light crept in Shyla spotted the first of many doe. We stayed on the field as we were the only hunters with access to 2 Square miles. Not seeing any buck, and getting a message from the land owners SIL telling us where he spotted a few buck, we drove the 3 miles to th other side of the property.
On our way there, I spotted a large doe. We glassed her and then saw ~20 deer bedded down about 50 yards from her, include a few legal buck.
We were busted so we crept out of the truck's passenger's door, and low crawled to the small ridge 125 yards above the deer.
Shyla went prone, eased the safety off and started a dialog with me about the shot. Her buck was bedded down facing us. 125 yards is a chip shot for her, but still, this was her first big game animal.
She has shot a ton of prone shots and was rock steady. Shyla squeezed the trigger and the buck's head dropped hard, dead instantly!
She used her 6mm Remington with her own hand loads of 90 grain Speer SPBT over H 4350 @3125.
To say I am proud is a gross understatement!
