Suppressors Laws?

I wasnt exactly sure where to post this so here goes. I may be getting orders to IL and I have been reviewing the weapons laws. It seems I can own whatever weapons I want minus ATF regulated. I guess I only have to get something called a FOID card? Does anyone know anything more bout IL laws or even live there? What would I do with my suppressor?

The other option is that I may be able to live in WI and commute to work every day. Does anyone here do this? It does not seem that there is amy gun unfriendly laws in WI. Can anyone fill me in on this?

I appreciate any help. I would prefer to take all my weapons with me including NFA registered. Thanks.

As far as the NFA, you will need to secure it outside of Illinois in a manner that does not allow anyone else uncontrolled access to said NFA items.

That could be any of the following(and some more)....
Bank safe deposit box
Locked box in your dad's safe
firesafe in your closet at your parents house
locked box in a buddies safe

The point is it has to be locked up so noone can use it without your presence and update the ATF on where it is being stored.

Sorry can't help you out on the actual IL laws or WI for that matter, just the NFA storage.

To the best of my knowledge all NFA is not prohibited in Illinois. You may own short barrelled rifles now if you belong to a reinacting group and you may own DD's I think. As far as suppressors or MG's you're out of luck unless you are a class 2 or 3. I think the portion of the code you're looking for with firearms regs is Ill code 720

That all sounds illegal to me, but I am no lawyer.... How can you be a resident of Illinois and obtain the items outside of Illinois and store them in Illinois, even though you can't use them in state? Sounds very confusing.

think he was saying if his parents live in a legal state, he can store the items there in a locked container only he can access.

My parents do not live in a legal state. The NFA item I have is a suppressor. As I understand it I will have to leave it in this state locked in a friends house with me only having a key, or in a safety deposit box. I am wondering if I can even travel through the state with the suppressor to live in MI?
