Movie Theater No Easy Day by Mark Owen

Re: No Easy Day by Mark Owen

I too enjoyed it. I don't see what all the controversy is about, personally.

Other than taking 2 Ambien to sleep everytime they were prepping for a mission....How dare they wish to be well rested and alert...Jeez don't they know this is a Government Secret. /sarcasm implied if you didn't already get it.

Re: No Easy Day by Mark Owen

This was a good book, his version of the assault on the compound makes a lot more sense then what was being released.

If you guys liked that book, pickup Fearless.

He would have been better-off writing a detailed account, like Berndtsen and Luttrell did, and submitting it to the censors. That way he could have produced something of lasting value. Instead the result was an obvious rush to publication with the hype not matched by the content. It also appears to have been ghost-written - and badly.

My copy won't be staying on my bookshelf: I am giving it away.

Ditto.

I do hope a good bit of the proceeds go to charity. That way at least something will not go for not!

Re: No Easy Day by Mark Owen

If you saw the guy on 60 Minutes, you know he's not a smooth talker. He mentions repeatedly in the book that he tells rotten jokes, which is another way of saying "I'm a shitty storyteller." So he needed the help, if only to stop a career navy man writing in a nonstop stream of military jargon.

It's still pretty lack-luster, but that's understandable if you read his statement of intent in the epilogue:

<span style="font-weight: bold">"My goal from the start was to tell the true story of the raid and show the sacrifices made by SEALs at the command."</span>

He didn't write it because he sees himself as the next Mickey Spillane, he wrote it because he'd spent his adult life righting wrongs, and this was his effort to set straight the misrepresentations certain sectors have been peddling.

But the details of the UBL raid only fill about half the book, so it needed some "padding" to keep it from being comic book length, which he took advantage of to give the public a taste of the sacrifice and dedication it took to train men with those capabilities.

But I did laugh out loud over the story about pranking the guys in the squadron with the giant black dildo.

Apparently you skipped the epilogue:

<span style="font-weight: bold">"I am telling this story and donating most of the proceeds from its sale in honor of the men we have lost since September 11. They are the true heroes." </span>

I'll take it.

I appreciate true heroes (and their ghost writers, who make things readable) and their recounts of our nationally signifigant events.

Re: No Easy Day by Mark Owen

It was exactly what it was stated as being. No national military secrets no "wow" moments just the story of what actually happened.A friend on mine served with the author.Said he was one hell of a operator FWIW.

Re: No Easy Day by Mark Owen

Ive read both Fearless and No Easy Day. No Easy Day was ok but Fearless is a really good book. I have read it a couple of times already.

I have to pretty much agree with Graham. Seemed very rushed and lacked any real content that was worthy of putting into a book other than the last 70-100 pages or so.
