I've really never used QD mounts so this is kind of new to me. My question is, how tight should the levers on my mount be? Sorry for the noob question

Thanks!

Re: QD mounts

I have a GG&G that only uses one lever, but I assume they would be similar in that you want the levers to go over center with "firm force" so that it takes a little effort to get it into the open position and also so that it won't open if lightly snagged.

You want to end up with the mount in a very firm hold where all slop, play or movement is removed. Just beyond this your levers will get hard to throw in a hurry. Just find your sweet spot and go shoot. Now take off your mount and remount. You should be very close to where you were to start with - most guarantee 1/2 MOA remounting or better. If you are not at that point, tighten up your throw levers just a bit and try again.

When I set up my GG&G I adjusted the throw lever so that I could get it over center with a little effort with one hand, actually my thumb. You'll know when you find too tight.... you just won't be able to get the levers to go over. Back off 1/8 turn or so and try again.

Make sure that when you set the mount into your rail, you slide it forward, hold it there and then lock the levers. Do this consistantly every time. Think of doing this like a recoil lug works when installing a flat base on your bolt guns.

Again, you are only after a firm and consistant hold with your mount. Set too high and you won't be able to throw those short levers, too loose and things will move. Just jump in and play around a bit to find your sweet spot. You'll only get so tight, and you won't be able to sqeeze any more from the mount or rail, so back off to just under this point, set it and forget it.

Happy shooting!

Re: QD mounts

I have the USO umqds I just did what I do with all of the QD rail mounts I get. Adjust it until the lever provides resistance, but not to the point where you have to muscle it into place.

There is a point where you just start to feel it bite the rail when closing the latch. Since you have to depress the button at the same time as closing the mount, make sure you can manipulate it with just your fingertips.
