I already have a Remington 700 BDL Long action rifle as the donor rifle for my smith to build a 260 Rem or a 6.5 Creedmoor. I'd choose either cartridge which better justifies using a long action. I want the rifle to operate as a repeater, and I intend to use 130 to 140gr bullets seated way out so the bullet bearing surface is above the case neck-shoulder joint. Will a long action rifle be practical with one or both of these cartridge? While I would be satisfied using the factory built-in BDL magazine, I think having an after market detachable magazine installed would be a great asset and option too......ESPECIALLY if a DM justifies using a LA.
I'm not sure if one or both of these cartridges justifies a long action. (?) I'd be willing to go the DM route if installing it justifies having used a LA. While I think the 260 cartridge with a long OAL might require a LA for proper extraction of a loaded round, I'm not sure the shorter 6.5 Creedmore requires an LA. Because I don't want a half-assed custom rifle built on the wrong sized action........I can always dump the LA 700BDL and buy me a Rem 700BDL in SA.
Your input please.
