I've heard different methods for finding LOP from measuring from the inner bicep to the trigger finger vs having roughly 1-1.5 inches between thumb and nose when the rifle is shouldered. What is the proper way to find your LOP for a precision rifle?

This is the way I was taught years ago, some may dispute others will agree.

1. Start with your arm at your side straight down.
2. Bend your arm at a 90 degree angle pointing straight forward as though holding your rifle in the crook of your arm.
3. Position your trigger finger as you would normally hold it to pull the trigger.
4. Measure from the inside of the elbow to the edge of your trigger finger.
5. This will be your length of pull.

I have been measured before using a custom measuring device, that used regular shooting position as though holding a rifle. it was exactly the same as measuring the first way. But this is for me.

Hope it helps.

I add to the stock until the bolt does not hit my cheek with my neck extended in prone - if I wanted to measure this I guess it could be butt pad to trigger or to the bolt when all the way back

Thanks for the info. Looks like inner bicep to the pad of the bent trigger finger is the way to go. One other variation on the same (just makes it a little easier to measure) is to hold the rifle against your forearm (finger on trigger) with the butt in the crook of your elbow. It should touch your inner bicep, if not add or shorten accordingly.

The end result is whats comfortable for you, and what position your shooting in..... A rifle shot in the prone position, will usually have too long of pull for standing.
