Looking for info on the Target AccuTrigger

I just ordered a Savage 12LRP in 260. I bought this mainly for target shooting but want to hunt with it also.

What is the most weight I can adjust this trigger up to?

Even at that weight (I have heard 10oz), would it be safe to carry the gun chambered?

I am new to Savages and even newer to the AccuTrigger. I've been searching on Google but haven't found a whole lot of information on the Target version.

Thanks!

Re: Looking for info on the Target AccuTrigger

Without getting into my personal beliefs regarding the safety of carrying a hunting rifle with a round chambered...I'll just chime in about the mechanics of the Savage accutrigger.

The "blade" that you depress prior to addressing the trigger itself is called the accurelease. Pressing in on the accurelease actually swings its upper end down out of the way of the sear. Thus, regardless of trigger pull weight or sear engagement, if the accurelease is not depressed, the rifle will not fire.

If the sear indeed becomes disengaged from the trigger, it will feel like the accurelease is "locked". That is because the spring force of the firing pin spring is resting against it.

Sometimes when people turn the accutrigger pull weight down fairly low, simply closing the bolt will cause the trigger to disconnect the sear. That is the "locked trigger" people bitch about with Savages.

I encourage you to play/experiment with your rifle before you field it. I suspect you'll be able to turn up your target accutrigger to ~2-3lb. Even so, prime an empty case, chamber it and see how the rifle reacts.

Be safe.

Re: Looking for info on the Target AccuTrigger

I just got one of these. From the factory the trigger is 'scarry' light. I moved mine up to 2.75 lbs. Most of my other guns are about 3 lbs so not so far off. It's my first Accu-trigger and so far I like it.

The Savage line of Target Rifles with the super light target Accutriggers, are heavy bastards! Wouldn't want to take a 26"-30" bull barreled rifle hunting, myself. But great factory triggers!!

Re: Looking for info on the Target AccuTrigger

Thanks for the help. I figured I would chamber a primered case and bump the gun around a little bit and see what would happen with the safety on and off. Good to hear that I can turn the weight up a bit also. I was afraid that I was stuck in the under a pound territory.
