Gunsmithing KMW to drop-in to a AICS or Manners mini?

Re: KMW to drop-in to a AICS or Manners mini?

Depends upon the exact thickness of your recoil lug. If memory serves my correctly, an unaltered AICS will only accept a 0.25" lug, while the Manners mini-chassis is good for at least 0.300". If you need more precise measurements, let me know - I have one of each type sitting in my barn awaiting builds.

Without knowing more about the particular lug in question (including width and depth of the lug), it going to be a pure guess as to whether it will work or not.

The newer Manners mini-chassis have a lug recess that is 0.400 wide x 0.575 deep, while the older ones were smaller (Tom has self-proclaimed that he got tired of opening up the lug recess for people so they enlarged it accordingly).

I'm pretty sure the AICS has changed a few times and I believe the AX chassis with accept up to 0.400 wide, but Eric's statement above about a 0.25 width lug sounds about right as a general rule of thumb for the AICS.

I just took a run (OK, more like a brisk walk) out to the shop. The AICS (purchased new within the last couple of months) has an opening that is 0.260" wide by 0.375" deep, while the Manners mini-chassis (also purchased in the same timeframe) has a recess that is dimensioned per ORD's post above.

If the work was done prior to about 2005, it probably has a Tubb lug that was modified on the inside hole. If after that date, it probably has the KMW wish is very close to the Tubb but with modifications to help with oversize shanks and such.
