Maggie’s Balls of TITANIUM

Re: Balls of TITANIUM

When I was stationed in England I used to watch every single TT race on TV. Its mostly English, Scottish, and Irish racing. I remember one of the English racers say an American will never win this race when he was asked by a reporter. I have to agree cause those blokes are crazy. I loved riding over there though, totally different than the states and WAY better !

Re: Balls of TITANIUM

I have been up 110-130 on the Colorado back roads and it is stupid to do. You dont have time to do anything if there is a deer in the road or anything besides go splat. I had to sell my bike because it was getting to be to often of an occurance. So I figured I better sell it before I ended up in a body bag. I

Re: Balls of TITANIUM

I wish they would put that on ESPN or something here. But I guess they can't as one mistake and.... well after the guy and his bike quite bouncing off hedge rows, trees and grandma's picket fence, there isn't enough to fill a shoe box at the funeral.

Probably a bit much for the TV sensors here

Re: Balls of TITANIUM

Love the Isle of Man videos, also the Caldwell park ones as well. I grew up thinking this stuff was crazy, and pointless, and wondering why people did it.

Now I stare and marvel at the accomplishment of these guys just gridding up - it's amazing. I have had one track day so far on my R6 and not only do I appreciate how skilled these guys are, but also that they represent the idea that the human spirit will always strive for something more. We weren't happy enough going 5 mph, so we went 10. Then we weren't happy going 10, so we went 50. Then we went 180+ through narrow town streets. What will we do next? My hats off to everyone who strives for doing more than we did before. It takes passion, courage, maybe a little bit of ignorance, and a whole lot of dedication.

As an aside, I would take this course if there was nobody else on it, and I'd go no more than half as fast as these guys the entire time. I scared the heck out of myself with headshake at about 40 mph. These guys are landing jumps at four times that speed on sometimes crappy pavement.

Re: Balls of TITANIUM

Fastest I've been on 2 wheels is 115mph racing SuperMoto.
4 wheels was 140mph in my brothers 64.5 Mustang.
I dont ride sportbikes, but have much respect

Its really not that bad.... I got lasered at 187 on a 2001 GSXR 100 when brand new. It was soo much fun that I did a second pass before the blue lights came on.

Yeah.... I know... I wasnt always a cop

So was that the deal at the crossroads? "The only way you can beat this ticket is to join the men in blue"

I got my rear tire clipped by a fellow rider when we were accelerating out of a corner at approx 90 mph, luckily my bike was nearly on its side already. Again, closed tracks have all (or most) of the impact areas protected by hay bails or wide open areas, this shit is insanity!

Exactly. A low-side that would mean simply walking away from a bike with some scuffed race plastics on a track is instead body(ies) and bike all over the place at Isle of Man. There isn't enough airfence in all the world to mitigate the deadly on that course.

Re: Balls of TITANIUM

I just had the usual discussion with someone who walked over while I was airing up my tires this evening.

"Hey man, nice bike. How fast have you gotten it up to?"

"Probably about 130 on the track."

"Ahhh, anyone can do that on a track, man. I got me a Gix 10," [do people even call liter bikes 10s?] "and a 6. But the other day this woman cut me off and I had to lay her down."

"uh-huh..." [finish up putting away my pressure gage] "Ok, man, take care."
