The choices are numerous. I tried searching and didnt find much. LOoking for an accurate, 1000 yard, laser rangefinder. THat can accurately range soft targets.
Looking for a model around the 500 dollar range but will spend up to 1k for a great unit but the cheaper the better. A tripod option would be nice for using on the bench or prone.
What is everyone else using?

Re: Need help picking a laser rangefinder

i just got a bushnell 1300 arc and ranged trees to the advertised 800 yards. i 1100 off a car on the highway.

price is great. you can spend a fortune on one easily. 350 on amazon for the 1300.

Re: Need help picking a laser rangefinder

I'm just playing devil's advocate here. But I've heard feedback on a couple of models of LRFs stating that while they were spot on as far as range, they were physically very small. Small enough that they were a one hand only deal, & that made it so that they couldn't be steadied on target as well as the users would have liked.

Also, there are a lot of LRF's out there which were never designed with tripods in mind. And this trend goes back many a year. Some makes & models have adapter pieces which you can buy. And others require a bit of creativity in order to mount them to a tripod, or full on viewing/ranging platform.

Aside from some good Googlefu, these links may be of some help.

Often enough, especially lately, you can find some good deals on used gear here in the classifieds section. Ditto on some other shooting websites. When buying new, however, especially in terms of LRF's, pretty much get what you pay for.

Re: Need help picking a laser rangefinder

I just picked up a pair of the Bushnell Fusion Arc 1600 12x50 Binos for $799 and I am very pleased with them. The glass is clear and very good in low light conditions and the 12x really helps finding small targets at long range. I need to order a tripod adapter for range work but that is under $20.

Re: Need help picking a laser rangefinder

Bushnell Elite 1600 ARC, then run about 500 and I've ranged a hill at 1410 yards when Leicas present couldn't

How far out can you see targets with your binos? 4'' target at 700 yards?

That is perfect, leaves the field open for choice now thanks!

I looked at the bushnell fusions binos and heard some good things about them...

I'm running a Swaro 8x30. May be tripping it this spring to fund a pair of Leica Geovids. Still on the fence, although I'm sure when I get my mitts on a set of Geos to try, I'll be sold.

Honestly I haven't had them long enough to start trying the smaller stuff. The glass is pretty clear and bright so 4" at 700 is probably doable.

the lecia 1600's are nice, and tiny, but for the $$$ the bushnell 1600 is king..
ive used both, and have ranged out to 1800 on grass hills...

1 word of warning on bushnell.. they are compleat douchebags to deal with on warranties...

If you want to range grass hills and trees the Elite 1600 Arc will work. Mine ranged trees out to 1900 yds. But if you need precision with accuracy, the Leica is king under $1000. The Bushy's will leave you wondering exactly what you really ranged.

Re: Need help picking a laser rangefinder

Can A lecia 1600 range a car or tree at 1800 yards? I want a budget for 1800yards. was also looking at the newcon lrm 2000 pro that can range to 2000 yards for $550. Anyone try one of these bad boys?
