I remember when you could get a Poly-Tech AK for under $500 and Styer AUG for under $1000. I was thinking about getting a Styer AUG A3 or Arsenal AK-74 which would you buy?

Aks have been the better investment over the last few years.5 years ago you would by romainanian ak's for 250 now they are 450. They aug is a great gun with great fit and finish and German engineering but the ak is an icon the world over, every young gun collector wants and will buy an ak.
Ak better investment ie less cost up front, larger market to resell to, the same or more profit % in the end

I'd pick up a couple arsenal slr101s. They seem to go up in value a lot after a few years. Last time they did a run of them was 10 years I was told.

Every Arsenal I have owned has increased in value or I have otherwise been able to sell for more than I paid for them...this is especially true with respect to the milled receiver models.

I have to say the AUG. I have seen the Styers go nowhere but up the last years, and if Obama does what he claims he is going to do the imported stuff is going to go off the chart. Just look at what you could buy a HK91 or HK94 for in 1990, and look what they are worth now, even used.

Your right about the 91 I bought one in 1988 for 600 bucks brand new. Sold it for 2500 12 years later. lol

I really wanted a AK-74 but they are all sold out. I did find a Arsenal SLR-101 for $1000 and bought it. Thanks for the input all!!

NDM's were what, 800$ 10-15 years ago, now they are ~5000$? I see them only going up for collectors.

COLT!!! {Always holds value!} My thoughts. ANYTHING imported, will go up{double}, after the ban.Yes, the ban will be back!{ The only factor, is the economy. They "might not" do it soon, cause it will hurt US manufacturing, and jobs. Then, anything "local,{US made}", that people buy "all the time". Colt 223's, Bushmasters, Stags, etc. I think the "Ban" will come within 2 yrs. Maybe 1. Mags, 30 rnd., would be a good investment, also. The "Ban", should last until Pres. Obama is out, unless the Republican Party can't put up a "good" {Like we just had} candidate, and Hillary get's the vote! It's gonna be a BAD 4 Yrs.!!!!!!!!

As an investment, I would think Styer AUG & Arsenal AK would be a bad investment right now. Both are priced pretty high and don't have a lot of room to move up. Yes they will go up in value, but they won't double unless a ban comes about. Also the current AUG are currently US made and the Austrian made AUG will always be worth more. In fact, once demand for the AUG slows, prices may come down a bit.
If I were going to buy for investment, I would take a look at the Yugo PAP AK pistols. Right now they are $600. Once imports stops (and they always stop on AKs sooner or later), they will go up by 30-40% easily. The Romanian AK Draco pistols were $350 just a year ago, now they are $550. The Veprs in rifle calibers are pretty cheap right now. Centerfire has them for under $600. The Vepr 12 is also new, but if the market gets flooded they price will go down a bit. If it gets stopped soon (and it always stops sooner or later) they will go up. I remember seeing Saiga-12 for $250.
They other thing I would do is keep an eye out for nice used rifles. They pop up regularly for 20% under the going prices, even for nice examples. I got a FN FS2000 for under $1500 recently. I even managed to get a used Daewoo DR200 for under $550. There are bargains out there, you just need to keep your eyes open and jump when you see it.

There was a local shop here that was selling SKS rifles in the early 90's for $89, by one get one free. A bunch of people I know purchased 20 to 30 of them, never shot them and all went under water for Katrina.
