DPMS MK12 or LMT MWS?

Re: DPMS MK12 or LMT MWS?

I have the LMT MWS and the DPMS SASS. Of the 2 I greatly prefer the SASS for it's accuracy over the LMT. Its fit, finish and reliability is every bit as good as my LMT and at a much lower cost. I don't know anything about the Mk 12.

Not sure what you are looking to do with the rifle, but I am a big fan of the mws. They can be easily set up to do many different roles with the barrel swap feature. Mine has been 100% reliable since I have owned it with the exception of when I loaded rounds to long to fit in the pmags I was using.

Maybe let us know what you are planning to do with the rifle and we can give you some better advice.

Re: DPMS MK12 or LMT MWS?

I have a LMT MWS and as much as I love the rifle and do use it for deer hunting, it is used for my tree stand and not for dragging thru the woods. She is a tank once the glass is on it. Not sure how much different the MK12 would be in terms of weight and hunting with it. What type of hunting? Deer, hogs? Just wondering.

I would really give the 7.62 20" cryo treated stainless H-bar predator HP LAR-8 from rock river a look. I think it runs in @ about 8.5 pounds? Should be able to pick one up for about $1350 dollars I'm thinking:

Both are heavy but the LMT balances and points pretty well. With a sling and an ACOG you could probably hunt with it as long as you aren't walking really far.

FWIW, I really liked the LMT I shot.

I have an LMT MWS with a Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9x on it and its a fine piece of weaponry. Its shoots .5-.75 moa with just about anything and can easily bang 12" steel out to 5-600 yards. Its built like a tank and weighs 10lbs bare, but thats still lighter than my bolt hunting stick. With the SOPMOD, Ergo grip, and 2 stage trigger it shoulders like a dream. Spend the $2400 on it and don't look back.

Re: DPMS MK12 or LMT MWS?

I have taken my LMT on very long walks through the woods. I use an adjustable padding sling that I bought from LaRue which helps with the weight of the rifle, scope, and loaded mag. You get used to it.

Weight shouldn't be an issue while hunting. Now if you are out on a trip that lasts 2-5 days with real camping then you need to prioritize everything with weight.

Re: DPMS MK12 or LMT MWS?

The LMT is a proven, reliable and capable system that will serve you well. It's also consistent from gun to gun, so the odds of you getting a lemon compared to DPMS aren't even close. DPMS I wouldn't trust to do much of anything, although there are some accurate ones out there I wouldn't want to ever have to punch anything but paper with them, and even that would get frustrating at times. Do yourself a favor and buy the gun that will last, if I couldn't have my OBR or my GAP-10 the LMT would absolutely be the next 308 AR on my list, even above any of the KAC offerings, let alone DPMS.
