I recently bought a Fort Turner Buck Tomahawk and I love it. It throws like a dream and cuts well to. Now I want another one. I have and idea in my head if what it should look like. I was watching Youtube and found Beaver Bill . He has regular throwing hawks and Museum grade hawks. They are some of the better ones I have seen. He says all are capable of being used and not just for looks. I may have to try to get him to make me one like I want. I want the tomahawk to use for throwing and chopping but I want it to have a very refined look. Does anyone know Beaver Bill or know any other tomahawks I should be looking at? I think I might like to collect these things but they will be used and not for looks. I am not paying that much for it to hang on a wall in my house.

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

The RMJ and Emerson are no doubt quality hawks but how do they throw? Also, would the Emerson's handle be broken from throws? The traditional ones give me piece of mind because you can get another handle. I also like the traditional look.

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

Has anyone here used there RMJ for throwing? I have only found 1 video on Youtube of someone doing this and he was doing it from the spike end. From what I have seen the RMJ is about as bulletproof as one can be from breaking locks to chopping car doors but is it balanced for throwing and has anyone on here tried it to see how it really does?

He makes some tough blades...knife and axe. He is expensive, but with the guy forging his own stuff I guess you get what you pay for in his case.

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

Thanks for all the replies. I guess when it comes to tomahawks I like the traditional ones better but that RMJ Eagle Talon is pretty sharp. If I knew it would be good for chopping wood I would get one. I might order one anyway just to try.

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

I know rmj makes historical replica hawks. They were really nice when I called them and they might have what you want just not be on their website or they can recommend somebody. Might be worth a quick call. Good luck

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

Yeah what chainring said....
I think I have as much money tied up in blades as I do in firearms..

I bought that hawk, from a guy on bladeforums they have a good classified section, and tons of good info.

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

I just picked up a S&W 671.
Nice Tool- all purpose hawk for the money.

If I had more gold dust I would own a RMJ.

I'm sure for my needs the S&W at the money spent will work just fine.

The Colt X-1 looks like a nice tool for not much $$$

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

RMJ is in my backyard literally, The owners live about 300 yards straight out my back door. I have been to their shop once just to see it. They let me test out a Tomahawk on a steel barrel. I tried to beat the barrel up pretty good. I gave out before the barrel or the tomahawk. There wasn't a scratch on it. I was sore for a few days. I would say they are pretty much indestuctable.

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

I've got the fever too! great tool. can't quite afford the RMJ though ha. I've been beating the tar out of my SOG. (i know it's a POS). Any suggestions for a nice hawk that won't hurt the wallet quite as bad as the RMJ?

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

it took about 9 months for my shrike to be completed. It really isn't that expensive, because you do half down on order and the other half when its finished. So you don't have to shell the whole thing at once, which helps. Will i ever need such a tool? Hopefully not, but i have one in case i need one.

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

Revised, well for me...... My order for a Kestrel Feather is in (black on black)!!! From what Kerri said it shouldn't be that long quoting 6-9 weeks.

She also mentioned having a batch of Shrike S13s being ready soon too.

Holy crap dude, I want my 2 hours back!!

Nice site!

*ponders possibilities...*

Re: I Have Tomahawk Fever

When I was deciding it came down to over-all size & weight as I was leaning hard towards the S13. BUT, with that in consideration once I saw the Kestrel Feather it gave me the same over-all length, even less weight with a little different style that is a bit more pleasing to my eye plus I didn't need the insulated handle.

Other wise it's a simple 6oz and 2" difference between the regular Shrike and the S13. The Shrike / S13 are awesome hawks now matter what.
