Hello all, I have decided to pick up a Nightforce Benchrest scope. I know I DO NOT need one and its probably overkill but, I want one:).

I will be shooting 100-400 (mostly 200-300) yards with my rifle and this scope. I think the 8x32 is what makes more sense out of the two...

I am going to be shooting 90% Benchrest with this and need to know what you all think about reticle choice? I have looked through many Nikon scopes that have super fine cross hairs and 1 dot.... I want to say, even though the picture is clear I have a very hard time seeing these cross hairs.

I have no clue what reticle to choose here? Thoughts?

Also, anything else I need to know about these scopes before buying one? I am sure I will love it once I get it but, I definitely want to make sure I am getting the correct scope. Help a new guy out!

Thanks

Re: Help with a Nightforce purchase...

I'd say 8-32 is way too much power for the distances you mention. At a max of 400 yards, I'd go for a 3.5-15 power NF scope.

A quick +1 for Chris and SportOptics. I recently purchased a Nightforce NXS 8-32x56 from them. I placed my order on a Tuesday afternoon and received my scope on Thursday. Amazing service!

Re: Help with a Nightforce purchase...

Lots of the guys shooting benchrest like the NP2DD. If you are going to try any ranging or holdover or holdoffs, i would go with something else like the like the NP-R1 or NP-R2. I think the benchrest model may not do the R1. As far as magnification goes, get all the magnification you can stand. Lots of guys using 35-45 power and up on 100 yard targets, but they are shooting for tenths and hundredths of inches, not really the same game as most of the tactical shooting. If you are going to do any hunting with it, i would suggest a 5.5-22 though.

Re: Help with a Nightforce purchase...

I do a lot of bench rest shooting out to a max of 600 yards, But a number of the matches are at 100 yards. I put a NF NXS 8-32X56 with ZS and HST with a MOAR reticle on my 308 AIAW folder. I really like the extra magnification. I used to be a NP-R1 reticle man but the MOAR reticle has won me over, Its a great reticle.
