Best distance for a ladder test?

Re: Best distance for a ladder test?

I always use 300 to be consistant. That being said I would parrot what others have responded with and say whatever distance you are going to shoot is probably best.

To me, distance isn't as important as having a range with consistent conditions. My "home" range has winds that are like being in a "blender". They swirl constantly. Head wind, tail wind, and every other point of the compass, all within a 10 minute period.

If you're performing a ladder test in conditions like this without several wind flags down range you're really not going to get any clear results.

To make matters worse on my "home" range, there are series of berms from 100 yards to 300 yards and each one creates it's own wind shear problems.

Got a farm nearby with almost a mile of flat land I'd love to be able to use for ammo testing. Nice backstop and all. Problem is the darn farm is inside the City Limits. All I get to do is smell the liquid cow $h!t they sprinkle on the field, no shooting allowed
