Howdy all...

I have a Remington 700 AAC on the way and was wondering if any of you have the dimensions of the barrel and threaded section? I'd like to order a brake for it, but think I may need additional info...

I know the threads are 5/8-24, but how long? What's the diameter at the shoulder? And the outside diameter of the barrel after the threaded section?

Thanks...

Re: Muzzle dims on Remmy 700 AAC-SD

Mine measures:

Threaded section measures .565 length from muzzle rearward.

.650 length including the un-threaded shoulder section.

.627 dia at the un-threaded portion before the step up to the main barrel taper.

.860 at the step up (muzzle end of barrel before step down to threads).

Mine is cerakoted so It could be +\- .002 compared to yours.

Hope that helps.

I would measure it yourself. If you want it to be timed perfectly, you're going to need "your rifles" dimensions. I have an AAC-SD and I did exactly what you did and it wasn't even close to being a good fit. Buy yourself a pair of calipers off of Amazon ($15 for a pair of digital) or have a smith do it.

I agree. There is no way I would trust my measurements to time the brake to your gun. I think they should be good enough to order a brake off of, but you will still have to time the brake to your particular gun after it arrives.

Without a doubt! Even a small variance from the given dimensions could throw the timing off. Final fitting of any brake purchased will of course depend on the actual rifle in hand and actual measurements.

Currently, I'm interested in the brake offered by JP Rifles. I believe they call it their "tactical compensator". I have a ton of peel washers, shims, crush washers and jam nuts. I'm sure I can make this one, or any brake, function just fine until I move to a "free" state and get a more appropriate muzzle treatment.

Re: Muzzle dims on Remmy 700 AAC-SD

I am using crush washers that I've timed by removing material for a specific brake or flash-hider on my AAC-SD. I am still torn over which one I am going to mount permanently, so I have not wanted to time and refinish every one I try. This system is working out ok, and I have found that I just leave the washer on the barrel when I use the thread protector so I get a little more "stand-off" from the thread protector to guard the muzzle.

I had a Big Chubby that fits the 700 AAC perfectly. You screw it on till it bottoms out, back it off to where it's perfectly horizonal (has timing marks), then tighten the collar down to the Remington barrel.

The nice thing was that you can remove it in 30 seconds for cleaning, and re-install. Only need an allen wrench.
