My freind is wanting me to build him some reloads for his 300 Win Mag he uses Elk hunting. He wants to mimick the Hornady 180 g SST. Suggestions would be appeicated

Why the 180?? And why mimick when you can just buy em?? Win brass , 71.8 to 72.5 r22 and a 210 Berger is what I'd be packing.... But hornady does make very good ammo

Also look to the IMR4831. I had good showings at from 71.7-72.3gr with federal premium brass, CCI250 and the 180gr interbond. Seated .010 of lands shot best but .005 also performed well. Was slightly over 3000fps 26" barrel.
Not sure how much the interbond and sst will be will differ with loading but Hornady lists them both at the .480 BC and .271 sectional density.

I don't load them in my 300 WM, but I do in my 270 Win. The Hornady 150 Gr SST&IBs shoot the same. If loaded the same, they hit the same with the same velocity. I use the SSTs for playing (they are cheaper) and the InterBonds for hunting.
No sight changes. I would think the 308s (300 WM) would act the same way.

I like the Berger 155 and 168 VLD's behind IMR 4350. Two elk and Oryx taken in the past two years with them.

My factory winchester loves imr 4350 with 180gr pills. 70.1gr remington 9.5 primers 180gr accubonds.

My 26" 1-10 twist AMU contour likes 77.0 of H1000 w 208amax ...72.2 of Re22 also very close in accuracy...may still have a bit of velocity to achieve, but pinpoint accurate...nothing hits like a winmag

I also prefer the .208 amax that's what I shoot when I pull out the mag. Win brass 72.2 g h4350 and am almost pushing 3000fps

78.7gns of H1000 and a 185 VLDH knocked down my elk last weekend at 644yds w/o a twitch. Bang flop.
