260 lapua neck sizer bushing recommendations

Re: 260 lapua neck sizer bushing recommendations

unfortunately I am working away from home and wont have access to my data book until Saturday. If you can wait until then I will post the bushing size. I run Lapua with 142smks. I tried this bushing on Nosler brass and it was too big on every one of them so if you ever switch brass you will need a smaller bushing. any hoo...will repost Saturday.

Re: 260 lapua neck sizer bushing recommendations

I ran the .289" and .290" TiNi bushings on my buddy's RP 260 brass, mostly using the .290" bushing for about ~.002"+ of constriction, when all was said and done.

I'd imagine that you'd be in the .289"-.291" range, if Lapua brass has thicker necks than RP, which is probable, hence the .291" size thrown in there.

+1

I run the 139 sceanars and have found the .290 Tin bushing to be ideal.

Re: 260 lapua neck sizer bushing recommendations

Thanks for all the posts. More are welcome to see how consistent they are. I may use good old RP later, but right now since lapua brass is on the way I will gladly wait for your info shep77, or anyone else using lapua. I'm assuming lapua is a little thicker and I am also assuming that because of their consistency, any recommendations should be good to go. I am also assuming the most .260 bullets are very, very close in diameter, but that's where I might be wrong. I will still try a few different bushings after I get some recommendations.

Rich, .291 TiNi Bushing with Lapua brass and 175smks. Sorry for the delay in response, seems the Flu has hit Washington in full force!!

RWS custom .260 Rem 700, I run .005 off of the lands, 41.3 gr H4350 on new brass and 41.9 H4350 on 1x(+) brass. Consistently sub 1/2 MOA @ 100yds.

Good friend has GAP .260 and runs 42.5gr H4350 with similar results. I would start at 41 and work up to 43 and see which it likes the best.

Wrong rifle!! Sorry...142smk

Re: 260 lapua neck sizer bushing recommendations

My recommendation would be to get several different size bushings to allow for different neck thicknesses as well as the ability to adjust neck tension. Check the neck diameter of fired vs loaded cases to determine the spread between the two. If greater than .005, you may want to consider sizing the necks in two steps in order to minimize runout.

I disagree. First, buying several different bushings gets expensive quick. 2nd, checking the size of fired brass isnt going to give you the needed dimension of bushing size. I buy 2 bushings, the first is measured by seating a bullet in new unfired brass and the second bushing is one size smaller for the brass that does experience runout after repeated firings. I have never needed to buy any additional bushings after that. Now if you are a shooter who runs several brands of brass, i.e., Nosler v. Lapua, then yes, several bushing are needed. In my experience, the Nosler will require a bushing 2 sizes smaller (experienced this with 1x fired brass that I managed not to sort before load prep).

Re: 260 lapua neck sizer bushing recommendations

If the 260 brass is thicker like in my 308 Lapua brass youll probably need a 291 or even 292 depending on how the loaded round measures on the neck, I go .002" from the loaded diameter. You've probably got a .294 neck, Id go 292 bushing. My 308 Lapua loaded ammo measures .336, I went with a .334 bushing, works great.

Re: 260 lapua neck sizer bushing recommendations

I run .292" and .293" bushings for my 260 Rem Lapua brass with 46.0 of H4831sc with the 142 SMK's. Lights out.

With Remington brass I use 0.288" Bushings. Seems to work well.

Too much neck tension with either Lapua or Rem brass gives me more runout. However, I have not been able to detect any firm variance in accuracy out to 600 yards.
