I'm building up my first long range rig right now. I purchased a remmy 700 5R in .308 here on the hide, and will probably mount a USO 3.2-17x44. I was looking at Seekins scope bases and have a few questions. They have the option for #6 or #8 screws, I don't even have the rifle in hand yet and am not sure how I would know anyway.

Anyone know what screws I will need?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm thinking the 20 moa base, seems to me a 30 or higher would be for a caliber capable of more distance than my little .308.

And finally rings. What make and height would anyone recommend?

Thank you all so much for taking the time with the greeny!

Re: 5R scope base, rings, etc.

Seekins makes outstanding products - get their rings too!

Base: 20 MOA will be fine. You will want the #6 screw, unless the previous owner had the holes milled or re-tapped.

Rings: Low with a 44mm objective assuming side focus.

Will do. Next I'm weighing a TBAC or AICS, I can't wait either way.

I was all ready to get the AICS and the HS stock that it came with grew on me. Not saying its perfect, it just took some getting used to for me. Its a bit chunky.

Well, what can I say?! I do like a gal with a little meat on her bones.

Re: 5R scope base, rings, etc.

I'm running a 20 MOA Badger base on my 5R .308, I wanted a steel base. I also run Seekins 30mm low rings on a SS 5-20x50. I did have to shave a hair off the Butler caps, but that scope sits nice and low. I only had to shave the front cap that flips up. Crappy Android pics.

@slivoman
Just about as low as you could get! Thanks for the pics, all though they just make me more anxious to get mine! That shows me that with the Seekins lows the 44mm objective should clear with no issues. How's that sweety shoot?

Re: 5R scope base, rings, etc.

I'm gonna havta do what our government should and cut my budget back a bit on this project now, so I'm looking at a Vortex PST 4-16x50 and I just found the NF direct mounts.

Any opinions on the direct mounts?

Re: 5R scope base, rings, etc.

Okay, the 5R's getting a PST 6-24 mil cradled in a NF 20 moa direct mount. Parts should all be here Monday, then I'll post pics. And then I'll go shoot it finally..... I've thought about hip firing it with no sight system just to fire my new weapon but I just don't think it'd achieve a very good grouping.

Re: 5R scope base, rings, etc.

I also went all Seekins on my 5R.

Seekins 20MOA base and medium height rings (with a Weaver Tactical scope).
I did have to bed the base, but don't know if that was Seekins (doubtful) or Remington (probably).

Finally got some trigger time in today. This was 100 yrds from prone with a rear bag. Firing cheap ass 150 grain fmjbt surplus junk ammo. I'm very happy with it to say the least, other than the recoil..... Something's gonna have to be done about it!

What chassis is this? That's a great looking shoot stick!
