Ok so I've read enough posts with guys saying that the 75gr Amax is not a good choice for an ar gas gun. Just because they're to long for running in a mag. I understand this. So why not pull the poly tip or cut it off to give you that extra room. I know there is a simpler way of doing this by just buying some 75 gr hornady OTM. But I currently can't find any.

    Open to you're thoughts.
    Thanks

They're formed in place, the only ones that I've seen fall off or pull out without deforming the jacket were in the boxes of Midway "Seconds" that I got a couple years back.

The 75 OTM's are also a significantly smaller meplat than the Amax with a removed point, which has a massive impact on the BC.

I was thinking about cutting them straight off at the jacket/poly junction. Leaving the base of the poly where it is so its basically a flat tip. I'll do some numbers just for the heck of it.

Powder valley just got a big shipment of bullets in last week as a bunch of stuff showed up back in stock. Some one else said midway got some bullets back in stock also. I don't think you'll get very good results cutting the tips off the amax from looking at them. I've got a box of them here that I need to find something to do with myself.

I read a review on Midway where one person claimed they slightly deep-seated the 75gr AMAX into the case so it would fit the COAL requirements of the AR15 magazine, and that it still fed fine.

I just went down to the bench and checked what COAL you would need to seat the 75gr AMAX with a trade-off in bearing surface-to-ogive depth at the neck, and a magazine that can handle 2.307" would be best. Maybe the PRI mags will handle it.

If someone has PRI 5.56 mags, can you check your maximum mag-length COAL?
