I have a Remington 700 chambered in 300 Win Magnum.
What I am looking for is a good starting point to make use of the 155 grain Matchking bullet because I have several thousand on hand.
Not looking for anything using heavier bullets as I already have a couple of good hunting loads using 180 grain and 200 grain Sierra bullets.
Any help would be appreciated.

Okie,
The 300WM cries for heavies. Why else would you burn the powder?
Trade those 155s for some 215 Bergers or 220 SMK.
Also, since you seem zeroed in on using the 155 because of the supply you have, you should tell us what powder you have already.

Re: 300 Win Mag with 155 grain target bullet

9H, I have both manuals and several more you didn't mention. Just cause a load is in the manual doesn't make it reasonably accurate.

I have a decent number of powders to choose from.
RL19, RL22, RL25, H4831SC, H4350, N160, N165, H1000.

Like I said, not interested in any more loads for the heavier bullets. Just looking for a couple that I can work up with the 155's and get some decent accuracy.

Interesting - you must have a different Sierra manual than mine.

In mine, they have accuracy loads clearly denoted.

No doubt you can get better information from soliciting anonymous Internet acquaintances than you can from a top shelf company with a 280 yard tunnel that pays 30+ year experience ballisticians to do instrumented load development for weeks on end.

Re: 300 Win Mag with 155 grain target bullet

My guess would be use a powder that is not quite as slow as normally used for 300WM. The slow powders will fill the case before you reach your maximum potential. As low as I have been is 190 SMK and I used IMR4350 to hit 3000 FPS there.
I like what I see in Hodgdon data with H4350. Not compressed and velocity good.
Go to the link and try this test. It will get you the best load if you follow it correctly:

Re: 300 Win Mag with 155 grain target bullet

To the OP; What are you trying to accomplish with the 155's in your 300WM? Just curious?

If you have a bunch of 155gr SMK's, maybe consider shooting them in a 308W or selling/swapping them for some heavier bullets that are more appropriate for the 300WM.

Not trying to flame you by any stretch, just trying to help!

You know, it is your rifle and your bullets so do what you want.
People here are just trying to tell you what you should do because they have been down the road. Don't turn your nose up at all the experience here even if it not what you want to hear.
Good luck with your endeavor!

Okie Gordon

I did the same you are trying a few years back to see how the 155 Scenars would shoot out of a GAP .300 WM 26" 1/10 barrel.
I never truly got the overall accuracy I was looking for compared to my 190 SMK's and I attribute that to the 1/10 twist barrel. I really think a 1/11.25 would have been better suited.

I used
RL19
Win brass
155gr scenar
210 M
3.340"
72 degrees
76.5gr @ 3335 fps
I found that 78.0gr @ 3400 fps gave me a sticky bolt.

RL-22
Win brass
155 Scenar
210M
79.9gr @ 3431 fps
80.4gr @ 3500 fps great accuracy and moderate ejector mark on brass

IMR4350
155 Scenar
win brass
210M
73.0 @ 3350fps 1/2 moa at 200 yards
73.4 3/4 moa at 200 yards 3430fps

H1000
Win brass
155 Scenar
210M
72 degrees
82.8 @ 3344 fps

How this helps!

Chris

Re: 300 Win Mag with 155 grain target bullet

Thanks a bunch Chris, that is the info I am looking for.
Went ahead and loaded up 10 rounds last night with 76 grains of RL22 and will see how it shoots this weekend unless it is raining.

I have several hundred of the Scenars but was hoping to get Matchkings to shoot well cause I have 2000 sitting around from way back when I used to shoot a 308.
