I'm having a hard time deciding witch action to use for my new build. I'm looking at a Defiance Rebel La and a Surgeon 1086. Both of them will be better than anything that I have ever handled and then some. All I have are Remys. I'm putting together my first custom build and I would like it to be done right. I have saved a long time to get this build under way. So I guess what I'm asking if anybody that has had both or one or the other if they could tell me a little about them. Pros and cons and why you chose either one over the other. Or am I just splitting hairs. I have done alot of serches on both and see very little negatives on either. Just would like to get some feed back from people that has experience with them. Build will be a 7SAUM for ringing steel primarily. Thanks

Both fantastic. Both very high quality, high value retention and legitimately functional. I myself have only owned GAP's version of the defiance and it was excellent. But have shot other Defiance actions and a couple surgeons and all I can recommend is to make out a specific list of features you want/need and see who fits the bill closest.
If youre asking which is "better" you are really just splitting hairs, they are both first class.
Maybe talk to your smith about your build, telling him exactly what you want and expect to get out of the rifle, and see if he has a legitimate reason to sway you one way or another.

I think that he is implying that unless you are picking one over the other for a very specific reason, there is no reason to do so.

My choice would be Defiance. Based on personal experience and being a machinist. The fit and finish is much better on the Defiance. IMHO
