1K ranges close to Houston?

I'm wanting to get into 1K but can't find a place to shoot. The farthest that I've got available is 500m (maybe 600 yards- I forget).

Bayou City Rifles is out...membership is closed.

anyone know of a place that's within a couple hours away

Raton New Mexico just over the state line is where the NRA has a big range and I'm pretty sure 1K. I know that't a long haul. I have looked into 1K training schools/classes ( I live in Louisiana ) and they are all far off. I belong to an awesome range that does have 600 yards but would like the 1K experience and instruction. I never to seem to have the time and money at the same time. I know there are ranges/shools in TX so try to google some. Good luck and good shooting.

Yea, I've seen some schools but their range isn't open to the public...not even a membership option. So, no chance on going there for me...I'm not giving them money for a one shot deal.
