Thats $1300 or less, prefer atleast 24x zoom.

i know theres a few good brands/scopes recently owned a vortex viper pst 6x-24x, but sold it due to funds.

i may go back to that if i can't find anything better.

i don't care about fancy features, although zero stop is prefered.

as long as it can hold a zero i'm happy, i won't be dialing shot, as i think you become a better shooter if you can learn holdovers etc, anyone can do the math and dial a shot, but holding over i think atleast makes you get better.

will be a 100-1k yard scope, realisticaly 100-300 90% of the time.

Has to be FFP as my eyes cant see the rect on sfp scopes.

have a few in my mind im thinking about but interested in any idea others may have.

you know the reticle shrinks on a ffp scope so it is smaller on low powers

Re: whats a good FFP scope...

Sounds like SFP to me also. If that is the case, then my recommendation would be a used NF 5.5-22 NPR1 or NPR2. Seen several for the $1200-$1300 range lately.

If it truly is FFP that YOU are looking for:
Vortex Viper 6-24 FFP (Meets ALL your criteria)
IOR Valdada 3-18 with MP-8 reticle is second choice (This scope exceeds the Vortex in all but 24x zoom)
Bushnell HDMR would be a distant third choice.

Re: whats a good FFP scope...

i know the difference between sfp/ffp.

i want a ffp due to recticle enlargement. i own both types, so i do know what i'm seeking.

Re: whats a good FFP scope...

What sfp scope have you looked through that you can't see the reticle?

And why do you think it would be easier to see the reticle on an FFP scope?

I think you might have them confused... an FFP scope has a reticle that gets smaller at lower mag ranges, so it's harder to see...

The SFP scope has a reticle that generally large and doesn't change size as you zoom so it's really easy to see at lower magnification.

Re: whats a good FFP scope...

i may have miss worded it, i never use my ffp scope when i had it on lower zoom, i tend to use it around 12x.

the issue here isn't between sfp/ffp, but a decent ffp for the price, or a scope better then the vortex viper pst 6-24 ffp

Re: whats a good FFP scope...

For under $1300 in FFP you are limited. You can pick up a like new SWFA 5-20x50mm or Bushnell 3-21x50mm HDMR in the for sale section here.

I'm not certain about the Bushnell, but I know the SWFA will out-resolve at 20x, what the Viper can do at 24x. So in the end, you'll actually see the target clearer at longer distances.

Re: whats a good FFP scope...

I would recommend the SWFA 5-20x50. You would be giving up 4x and a zero stop. I have a 6-24 PST and the SS. If you could compare them side to side you would see why.

Re: whats a good FFP scope...

SWFA SS or Bushnell HDMR.

Many seem to have picked up on your "I can't see the reticle at lower powers" but I read "i won't be dialing shot, as i think you become a better shooter if you can learn holdovers etc" and that infers the need for FFP. And I agree, so much that I will not run a SFP on anything, if its not FFP I prefer fixed. When I'm dialed back to where I can't readily see the subtensions (under 5X) I'm not at ranges I'll be holding anyway-noone dials down to 3X for a 300+ yard shot....
