Any reviews? And feedback? Im looking to replace some trashy Binos I currently use. My current ones make me cross-eyed just from looking through them, lol.

I looked through a buddys Leupold (Wind Rivers) and they were pretty sharp. So that's all I have to compare them to.

I just did some extensive shopping myself for binoculars. What's your budget? Intended use? Do you plan on wearing glasses or sunglasses while using them?

As a general rule, I'd only take 10x mag in a 50mm objective or larger. Anything smaller with 10x makes the exit pupil just too small. The eyebox suffers greatly, as do images in lower light.

My budget is approx 500-700. I dont wear glasses. It will be used as observation for deer from 100-600yds. And maybe spotting hits on steel up to 600. I have a swaro spotter, so I dont plan on these binos replacing my spotter any time soon, lol

Damn, it sounds like you need 10x or more for ranges like that. Nothing wrong with that, it's just more binocular than what I use.

Again, I'd still suggest that you keep the objective diameter at 50mm or above. Even though it is a very common configuration, the 10x42mm binocular makes for a tight eye-box, and dark images in lower light.

What I ended up doing was buying several pairs so I could make a side-by-side comparison. I found that Eagle Optics worked out quite well for this. After talking to them, they actually encouraged me to do it. They have an excellent return policy. Thirty days, no questions asked. And they are super prompt on refunds. I ordered around $4,000 in binoculars one week, and returned all the ones I didn't like. They had my money refunded to my credit card by the next week. It worked out very well, and having all the binoculars available to me at the same time was priceless

As you may know, Eagle Optics is essentially a store-front for Vortex, so they certainly pimp that brand a lot. I ordered a pair of Vortex Viper HDs along with my other selections. In the end, I didn't find that the Vortex's performance was as good as some others. Sure, they have a VIP warranty, but it seemed to me that optical quality suffered because of it. In other words, I felt like I was paying more for a great warranty than for the optical performance. I know that isn't the opinion you hear a lot about Vortex, so your mileage may vary.

    Nonetheless, for your application, I'd recommend you take a look at these options;

    Vortex Viper HD 10x50mm

    Vortex Vulture HD 10x56mm

    Leupold Mojave 10x50mm

    Pentax DCF 10x50mm

    Fujinon Polaris 10x50mm

    Minox BL 10x52mm

    Celestron Granite 10x50mm

glock24, Thanks for all the help!!

I settled on the 10x50 Vortex Viper HDs. I bought them from sportoptics. They are local to me here in Louisiana. Only thing is that Im sure they will come in just as Im leaving to go back overseas. I leave Wednesday. So itll be a month before I can actually check them out.

Im hoping these Vortex Vipers are gonna be incredible glass. 650$ for a set of Binos is hard to explain to the wife because I already have a Swarovski spotter and Nightforce scopes. And Im about to jump into the world of Nightvision in the next month. Im gonna have more money in glass than her Mercedes, lol.

Once again thanks for your replies!

Re: Vortex Viper HD 10x42 Binocular

I don't know that "incredible" is the word you'll use for the glass, especially since you already own Swarovski glass. They are good binoculars however, and I'm glad to see that you picked the 50mm objective.

    Cheers

Re: Vortex Viper HD 10x42 Binocular

You gotta remember I was looking for an 8x pair of binoculars, so it isn't a direct comparison.

That said, I thought both the Nikon Monarch 7 and the Meopta MeoPro 8x42mms performed better optically than the Vortex Viper HDs. And both come in at a lower price than the Vortex. Specifically, the curvature of field was the deciding factor. Both the Nikons and Meoptas stayed clear and sharp farther out toward the edges than the Viper HDs. For me, being able to see as much FOV as possible without distortion is a big deal.

I decided to keep the Meoptas. They are American made with a lifetime warranty.

Re: Vortex Viper HD 10x42 Binocular

Cool deal. Im coming from a shitty pair of simmons. LMAO. So I know Im gonna be upgrading no matter what price I pay or what brand I would have decided on. Besides having to buy a couple more scopes, and then my Nightvision which is coming soon, these Binos are the last set of glass that Ill need. So Im glad to have settled on a set. And of course Ill never be taking my spotting scope hunting with me, so Im gonna need a good chest strap for them. I think Vortex makes one?

Re: Vortex Viper HD 10x42 Binocular

Well, the Vipers came in. The glass is super clear. And colors are very crisp. Although the weather could have been much better, I am happy with them. They are heavier than I thought. But at least I feel like I actually am holding something quality. They have a rubber-ish armor coating on them. Im overall very happy that I bought them. And Chris from sport optics came through for me. I decided to buy from them because they have them listed as tax free and free shipping. Well I was charged tax because I live in the same state as them. After calling them Chris told me he would eat the tax anyways even after I told him that if I made the mistake by not knowing this tax law then I have no problem paying the tax. But he insisted on eating the tax cost anyways. And I think this is really a stand-up business and Chris really impressed me. I sure will be doing all my shopping from them from now on and encourage others to do so!
