Hello,
Looking for some advise. Was going to install the tactical steel bottom metal from Stocky,or should I get the M5 DBM and send the stock out to be inletted don't want to use the M4 unless it uses AICS mags. Was intending to use this rifle as a stalking/hunting rifle. Any thoughts?
Thanks Brent

Re: DBM or not to DBM

Really no reason not to go DBM, just MHO. I run the PGT on my rig and love it *EDIT* my rig isn't dedicated hunting, its range toy and hunting*. Uses AICS mags, pretty cheap, but well made/look good. I inletted mine by myself with a Dremel- just make sure you only do a little at a time- you can always go back and take more out

Out of stock right now thou-

Re: DBM or not to DBM

What is your reasoning behind wanting/needing a 5-10 round mag hanging out the bottom of a dedicated hunting rifle? I'm not against a DBM system, I just see not need for them on a dedicated hunting rifle.

Have a range gun that is on a aics, just thought it would be nice to be able to interchange mags. but definitely don't need a mag hanging out.

Good point thanks.

That's a really fine looking rifle there, you've done well in putting it together.

If you're going to be sneaking around in the woods, the more stuff you have hanging off your rifle, the louder you are going to be. And you need to be realistic about needing a 10 round magazine for hunting.

For stalking and hunting I would leave the rifle as it is. It will be the frequency and accuracy of your cold bore shot that brings home the bacon, venison and pelts.

Now when you build a fun gun for the range, bring on them 10 round magazines!

Re: DBM or not to DBM

If you're going to put on DBM, go with Surgeon. It has as flush mount a look as you can get with DBM and a 5 round mag does not hand out that far. It has a forward lip that holds the magazine in nice and tight with very rattle. There is no protruding lever as on the Badger M5 system.

Remember, this is your rifle. If you want a detachable mag and are willing to spend the money on one, then get it!

Re: DBM or not to DBM

I think the PTG is the best bang for the buck and quality is on par with anything out their. 5 round mags are not going to hang down far like a 10 round. As far as to which type release you want is up to you. I can't see it being an issue in which DBM you choose and which ever way you choose to use your rifle and having the mag accidently coming out. Go with your gut feeling as you will get a lot of different answers. What is good for 1 may not be good for another. Thats the great thing in having options to find out for yourself for a future reference.
