I've been working on the .338 BR for a while and shooting them has proven to be a lot of fun. The quiet aspect is wonderful and this has been the most hollywood quiet rifle I've seen yet. On the other hand the round is capable of firing supersonic in a pretty impressive way. 200gr Hornady SST's at 2200fps or a little more, 300gr Matchkings at 1650+. I know the point is more for the subs but its possible to use the round for higher velocity and flatter shooting. Its quieter supersonic than my .338 Lapua because the powder charge is about 30% and the velocity is lower. Recoil is low and even with full power supersonic loads you can't get enough powder in the case to blow up a pistol can.... at least a well designed can. Heat can be an issue in semi or full auto but most of us aren't using this round for full or semi. Its too expensive and time consuming to load ammo.
I love the DTA SRS because of the ability to change the barrels and bolts out quickly. I've got the .338 Lapua, .510 whisper, .338 BR and 6.5 X 47 Lapua for this rifle and can switch as desired.
The 3 rounds in the picture are the .338 BR with a 200gr Hornady SST, .338 BR with the 300gr SMK and the .308 with standard 147gr FMj.
The suppressor is my own build for the .338 Lapua. It works well for the BR as well as the 6.5 X 47. I've done about 5 of the .338BR's for the SRS so far and 6 or 8 of the 510's. Mags have been the problem for the 510 due to the shoulder retention feature of the DT mags.
Neat guns and a neat round, well worth building with any of the available actions.
