My shooting bench top is made of painted plywood. Using sandbags is not an issue, but when using a bipod I've read here on the forum that the bipod feet can chatter across the surface on recoil. However, I don't remember anyone suggesting a fix other than to pre-load the bipod. That got me to wondering, has anyone got a solution in terms of something placed underneath the rubber feet that is still rock-solid but allows smooth travel on a heavy recoiling rifle? Would something like a single layer of a towel or something similar work?

You could always look at rhino lining your benchtop. Another option would be taking a router with a plunge cutting bit on and routing out a slot that your bipod feet can sit down into allowing you to properly load the bipod. Without loading bipods tend to hop thats why you should always load your bipod the issue with benches is your unable to load it due to the slick surface on the bench not giving you enough friction.

To those of you who put something to push against on your bench. How do you keep from over loading the bi-pod? Not crittism, I haven't much experience switching from different surfaces. My understanding is I should use very little loading for best consistancy. In turn switching surfaces is faster, more constistant as loading is easier to achieve.

With the webbing, I attatched it under each edge of the top. It streches a little and you can adjust the angle of the rifle easily. If I try to put too much pressure on the strap, I get too far forward and it puts me out of position.
