Well after about 200 rounds or so of my Savage 110 in .338 Lapua the scope is showing some signs of wear. The gun has always had a brake on it and I changed out the factory brake to a 4 ported after market brake that tames the .338 to a mere .308 non-braked recoil gun. I guess we will see how good customer service is at Vortex but I never expected this to happen to this scope.

As you can see the upper left hand quadrant of the scope (2 mil up, 2 mil left) there is a tiny fragment of I am guessing where the reticle came apart. It happened this past Sunday after my second shot and at first I just thought it was a spec of dirt or dust but when I wiped the scope down it was still there and then when I adjusted the power it got smaller and larger with the power adjustment going the same way.

Well considering the reticle is glass etched, I wouldn't say it's a piece of the reticle. Probably an errant speck in the tube that finally stuck itself to the lens. Vortex will take care of you.

This. I had a Leupold Mark 4 that had tons of fine dust/hairs over the reticle, even before it was ever put in rings. (It was only visible against a light background, but was distracting when there was a light background.) They cleaned it under warranty, I'm sure Vortex will do the same for you.

It won't effect the performance of the scope in the least, although it may be somewhat distracting if you find that your eye is drawn to it, etc. You might try smacking the scope around a little bit and see if you can knock the spec off. If that doesn't work, it is likely that the recoil, etc. will knock it around/off/out of its current position. If it truly bothers you that much, contact Vortex, explain the issue and ask them to repair/replace the scope under the warranty. Personally, with that single, small spec, I'd keep shooting it. If it is something like coating on the inside of the tube that is flaking off, then it will probably get worse over time and then you may need to actually address the issue. Your call obviously...

Had this happen to my viper pst. I sent it back to vortex and they gave me a brand new one and I had it back within a week. Great customer service. Btw, it didn't effect the performance of the scope at all. Just annoying is all.

Well Vortex received the scope Tuesday 3/5/13 and had it fixed and shipped it out by the afternoon on 3/6/13 and I will be getting it back this Friday 3/8/13. Not bad customer service at all. Next time I'll just hold onto it if this happens. As I was taking the scope mounts off I thought to myself I could probably live with this and now am kicking myself in the rear due to having to sight it back in when I could have continued shooting steel.

On par for Vortex customer service. They are a great group. Small flakes like that happen to even the best scopes. Not a big deal as I have had it happen in other scopes.

Will be getting a couple Vortex scopes in the near future myself and not having to worry about their service is a nice feeling.

Vortex does really set the standard for costumer service, it's too bad that we have to use it so much but it hasn't stopped me from buying there products.

True about using it, but when there is SO much of a product out there that is talked about a lot, like most of Vortex's stuff, you tend to hear about it a lot more as well... So it also seems like a lot more. But yeah, hasn't stopped me as I just purchased a PST today!

i hate to say this but,..you could have hit the scope against a thick phone-book fairly hard and it should have knocked that speck right off.

it's possible this is what vortex did and then shipped it back out,...but i couldn't say for sure.

I posted this in another post but so far their customer service has been less than marginal in my case... 3 weeks ago I bought a brand new Viper Pst 6-24x50, mounted it one my AR, took it to the range for my first time ever shooting this rifle and to zero it. After being at the range for 10 mins and not firing one round down range I found the side parallax was not working and just spinning... so back it went to vortex, and I just received it again "fixed" under their VIP lifetime warranty this past thursday... now it seems to work, however it screeches like a dieing rabbit as soon as you begin to operate it.... again not one round fired, as you can imagine I am overly pleased with their product thus far

True. My very busy gunsmith stocks and sells Nightforce exclusively and has many that regularly go back in for service/warranty work and of course NF takes care of all issues promptly.
