So, the gf is in the market for a new rifle. She wants a 243 to hunt and target shoot with. She probably wont ever shoot much past 4-500 yards, but will be able to stretch it out there often bc she has an open field that long in her back yard. So, my question is what factory guns should she look at? I prefer for her to stick to a 700 of some sort but open to tika and others. I figured the 700 sps varmint would be a good start for her and if she really enjoyed it, she could shoot the barrel out and get it trued, rebarreled and maybe a new stock. So, what else would you suggest looking at? She is tiny... 5-5 about 105# but recoil shouldn't be a problem in this caliber. Not sure about the budget either, but it would be on the lower end of 500 to 800 i would assume. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Make sure the twist is optimal for what type of bullets you want to shoot. I think the Tikka has a slower twist than Rem and Savage. I built a Savage up to .243 but the Stevens aren't bad for $300 and can be built up just like the similar Savage models over time.

All I own are Savages so Id say that MFG & you can do any bbl changes at your home w/no smith.
I have a M10 sporter, 22" bbl & have no problem hitting the 600 & 700 yd steel at the range out here.
Remmys are ok as long as you can find one that done need to be worked over to shoot.
CZ would be my choice over a tikka or remmy though.

Deer and maybe a little hog hunting. She will probably only carry it to the stand and back. Might should look into the fluted models. What is the heaviest bullet that the 1-9 ish twist of the savages and rem could stabilize? Would like to shoot something in the 105 grain range but not exactly a requirement.
