I need some advise from someone who has had a dpms lr 308 extractor break before. My rifle is built on a Mega upper and lower set, it is a 6 Creedmoor, rifle length gas system, standard buffer and spring. Also I have been using a carrier weight system. I used a Dpms bolt and carrier with this build. This gun has functioned 100% up to 5-6 hundred rounds when the first one broke. And then the replacement extractor broke today at approx. 990rnds. I have been around the ar platform quite a while and have never seen this before, and never twice. My gunsmith said he has not seen this ether. I am thinking it may be caused from the carrier weight. And need advise as to why they are breaking and where to find another extractor because Midway and Brownells are out of stock. Thanks for your help.

Fulton Armory has extractors, springs, etc. listed as in-stock for their Titan line of rifles (DPMS-compatible/LR-308 pattern) that will work for you.

As for the culprit...are you running any modified springs, o-rings, etc., etc., etc. with the extractor? What about the ammo?

ORD, Thanks for another place to find the parts I need, I will contact them tomorrow. As for the ammo, They are my hand loads. They are not overly hot just a small swipe from the ejector. When I had the carrier weight in there were no marks on the case. Today I had to borrow a extractor from another bolt, so I took the weight out thinking that is the only difference than any other ar I have messed with before, that is when I found the small marks on the cases. My load is Hornady 105s with 40.6grns of H4350 , and cci br2 primers.

Got a pic of the break? What actually broke? The claw? Somewhere else? Hard to say the cause of the problem w/o knowing where the break actually occurred? (i.e. BOTH times)

I have ordered two extractors from fulton armory. I guess if it breaks again with one from there I will have to dig a little deeper. Over gassed might be the problem. Thanks for the advise and the other possible problems.

The other thing that may be worth your time in doing is getting with George or some of the fine folks at GAP given their knowledge/experience with gassers in the 6mm Creedmoor chambering and their extensive work with the cartridge itself. It is possible that they may have some thoughts on your setup and how you might address these issues (or at least if they have observed any extractor failures as a "common" problem in 6mm Creedmoor gassers).

I've had the same thing happen once, about 1500 rounds in. I just replaced it and haven't had any more issues. Check Midway product #: 467621 and have them notify you when they get stock. Much better deal for some spare parts when they have them.
