I'm starting to learn how many rounds between cleanings this new Savage 110 FCP .338 LM can go between cleanings before accuracy starts to suffer. So those of you with this rife (and the 110 BA) - what is typical for yours? Thanks

I typically shoot 12-24 rounds per weekend and am running 92.0 gr H-1000 behind a 300 gr SMK. I clean the barrel after around 50-60 rounds. The gun gets wiped down, bolt cleaned after every use.

I have not noticed any loss in accuracy but I just like to keep it clean. Normally takes 1 or 2 fouling shots before the shots start getting tight groups.

Thanks. I'm still in the load development stage, but currently working with 91.0 gr. Retumbo behind the 300 SMK. After cleaning, I'm finding that it takes about 5 rounds for the gun to start grouping again. That's a waste of components, so I'd like to stretch the time between cleanings further if I can. I have been cleaning after every session (12 to 20 rounds) and starting off with a clean barrel each time. I was just wondering what I could reasonably expect before accuracy might suffer. Since I'm still in load development, any degrade of accuracy might not be clear as to whether load-related or bore condition-related. Your experience is helpful.

What kind of MVs and group sizes are you getting with that load? Did you happen to try Retumbo before settling on the H-1000?

Thanks

Vh20:

Towards the bottom you will see 92.0 grains of H-1000 with a 300 grain SMK about 0.022" of the lands is workin for me target is 200 yds and shot that on Saturday. Went back out Sunday with same load and same load but 0.017" an 0.027" off the lands and the 0.022" off the lands with 92.0 grains if h-1000 prevailed. This time they weren't touching but damn near and a quarter almost covered up all three shots. I blame the loser group on the shooting bench I was on as it was a friends and was not stable in the 10-15 mph winds. The target in the above link tht shows one ragged hole was shot at my local range which has steel with concrete footers so the bench doesn't move. I will be trying the load again this week and will let you know.

To tell you the truth I bought 1lb of Retumbo and 1 lb of h-1000 for load development. I also bought 250 300 grain Berger OTMs and my savage would not shoot them better then 1 moa no matter what I did. This made me burn through almost all if my powder and when I had to buy more Retumbo was no where to be found so I bought all the h1000 they had in stock (3-1lbers is all they had same stock number). I know the lapua eats powder but now it's hard to find Retumbo and h1000 but I've found it easier to find h1000 in my area so that's the main reason. I am sure the Retumbo would perform good with the SMK's but I just didnt have any left to try and had good luck wit h1000.

Wow, that's nice! What's your muzzle velocity with that load?

Shot the same load today. 92.0 grains of H-1000 behind a 300 gr SMK 0.022" off the lands shot four times.
1. 2,794 fps
2. 2,795 fps
3. 2,794 fps
4. 2,783 fps

Average of 2,791 fps. This was on a buddies brand new F-1 Chrony so not sure if it needed to be broke in or how good of a Chrony it is.

The four shot group was under 0.50 MOA.
