7mm RSAUM with a 16" barrel?

I don't know how to post the entire screen shot from quickload so here are just a few common powders that listed over 95% burned in a 16" barrel.


Cartridge : 7 mm Rem SA Ultra Mag
Bullet : .284, 180, Berger Hybrid #28407
Useable Case Capaci: 65.401 grain H2O = 4.246 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.073 inch = 78.05 mm
Barrel Length : 16.0 inch = 406.4 mm

The velocity I screened for is 2450fps. All pressures are safe. Case fill ratios are between 94% and 107%.


Powder type --- Prop.Burnt %

Alliant Reloder-22 --- 96.8

Alliant Reloder-19 --- 97.2

Alliant Reloder-25 --- 99.3

Winchester WXR --- 96.7

Hodgdon Retumbo --- 97.9

While this could be done. If you are wanting a 7 that short I'd go with a 7-08.

I think to get the velocity you want you are going to have to get a tight bore barrel, something along the line of a 6.5mm bore, that should put enough squeeze on the bullet

It all adds up with the RSAUM. Just trying to figure out how nasty that 16" barrel will be. Planning on putting on a bastard. Not concerned with recoil but the blast ought to be interesting.
