Gunsmithing cant get the barrel off my 700

i dont care about the old barrel, i just need it off

action has been soaking in kroil for the last 4 days..
even heated the barrel till the alumahyde started to burn,,,
use a rem action wrench block..
had the barrel locked in these aluminum barrel blocks, started with it wrapped in tape, it still spun..

removed tape, added sand.. still spun
smacked with big hammer... no joy..

even tried to put the action block in the vice and a pipe wrench on the bbl... it twisted the block out of the vise after i used a 2ft bar on the vice to lock it down..

18in pipe wrench and your action wrench.

If you have access to a lathe, you can cut a relief at the shoulder. That should take all the stress off.

I haven't had to try it, but I hear you can carefully cut away the recoil lug with a whiz-wheel or dremmel. If that do it, at least the gap where the lug used to be will give you better access to heat it with a torch

I had a Rem 700 barrel that was about as much of a pain in the ass. Truthfully go to a sporting goods store and get some Rosin that you would use in baseball...sprinkle it on the barrel and clamp it in the vice. Use a propane torch and put the heat directly in the chamber, there is some funny looking anti seize or thread locker that Remington uses that will bubble out. Crank that barrel vice down good to the point where you think something is going to break and then get a good cheater bar and go to town.

Likewise, it looks like your barrel vice is midway down the barrel, get it as close to the action as you can.

If you don´t care for the barrel to be removed, slip a just fitting nut over the barrel an weld it in place. Make sure your weld seam goues all the way round and that you weld on both sides of the nut. Use a real wrench and the barrel WILL come of. If you want to reuse the old barrel, use a mill to cut a six square at the muzzle and again you can use a wrench and the barrel should also come of. This is what I do to unscrew locked bolts.

Id start with getting a different barrel vice. I have a Davidson aluminum one i got off of brownells and it has worked on everything to the most stubborn old mil surplus rifles ive thrown at it, though i dont recommend you tape with this vise, it always seems to slip.

18in pipe wrench and your action wrench.

i put a 2ft bar on a 10" pipe wrench and leaned on it... it "poped".. then came off.... argh...

but now the action is ready to Darkeagle Custom, i got a PTG bolt, and a CBI "Rem-Age" barrel ready to go..

If you are going to use heat, the action should be heated, not the barrel. When the action gets hotter than the barrel, it expands further than the barrel will and will release some of the tension on the threads.

It was kind of mentioned above but the first thing you need is an actual barrel vise. A bench vise with jaws is not going to cut it. A barrel vise would crush those jaws you're using. You need something that will hold a barrel tight enough that you can swing on the end of a 3 foot cheater bar and the barrel won't twist. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/226100/wheeler-engineering-barrel-vise-with-3-wood-bushings.

If you aren't careful you can "tweet" the action, and damage the bolt rails.... I have been gunsmithing for forty years, and with the proper equipment you can remove the barrel...... If you want to send the barreled action to me then I will get your barrel off....
