I'm thinking I might sell one of my scopes and I'll probably have better luck if I take the paint off. It's a Nightforce scope. What would be the best thing to use to take off the paint without damaging the scope?
Acetone/nail polish remover will work. Pu it on a rag or cotton balls and wipe it off little by little. Avoid getting it on the glass, be careful around the turrets.
Brake fluid will blister and lift most paint w/o leaving a residue like a solvent. Brush on a light coat and let it set overnight and see what it does.
You might try Hoppes #9. It is pretty gentle yet will take the paint off. I believe citristrip has been used succesfully as well. Like already mentioned keep it away from the glass.
I used acetone and a rag last year to remove a Krylon off an IOR last year. Was pretty fast and only took about 30 minutes with the hardest places being around the turrets to get into the tight/small areas.
CITRISTRIP from Walmart. get the gel not the spray, apply with small paint brush let it sit for about 30 min and wipe it off with ease. just did mine yesterday
Pure acetone will not harm glass. Finger nail polish will as it has other ingredients such as nail hardeners. When I worked at Burris, we used PURE acetone to clean lenses. It does work fairly well to remove paint from the scope too.
