Rifle Scopes viper pst 4-16x50, what mag is mildot correct?

My buddy would like to trade me his almost new PST 4-16 sfp and rings for my vari-x III 6.5-20x40 er/t with target dot. First of all this is a really good trade for me correct? My scope is old but perfect shape with rings, shade, and caps. He wants it for a bench gun, I want something for my ar. Second, what magnification is the mrad mil-dots correct at?

Decent trade. Not only is the mil reticle accurate at 16x, but there are detents at 8x, 5.3x (not so useful) and 4x telling you where exact multiples of the scale are accurate - a very good feature.

thats very helpfull, thank you. i had no idea about the detents, so is it just scaled? like at 8x its the mil-dot formula /2 and at 4x /4?

You could think of it that way - I just look at it as at 8x each "1 mil" hash is in fact 2 mils, and at 4x each hash is 4 mils, etc. (On this scope there are ticks at 1mil and smaller ticks at .5 mil increments, so I'm referring to the larger 1 mil ticks.)
