Good couple?

I'm wanting to get into long range hunting and shooting and I want to put the money into one rifle. I have been looking at putting a Nightforce nxs 5-22x50 on a FN TSR XP with a 24" barrel. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you are really planning to hunt with it, maybe consider the 300WSM version?

But the 308 would be OK, (and easier to find brass or loaded ammo).

I thought about the 300WSM. I already have a 300 Win Mag, and I have to sell another organ every time I want to buy a box of shells. For coyotes and deer I think a 308 is plenty.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the TSR XP. Is it good to go out of the box. If not I would consider buying a Rem 700 SPS TAC and a new stock for it. And I'm curious if I'm putting to much glass on for the rifle.

What's considered long range hunting to you?

For a 308, i think 1000 yards and in for coyotes. Anything over 700 would be unethical for big game.
