So Im looking for a high BC hunting bullet for my soon to be .338 LM, let me start by saying I really only shoot and trust nosler accubonds. I was so bummed they didn't make a .338 accubond long range!

So what's my best options, I see a Berger tactical, and elite hunter (not available?)

I have 338 and have been shooting the berger hunter elite with good accuracy. I got my shells from bob beck at extreme outer limits. I've got the 300 grainers and only shot at paper but I've heard they are having great results on game.

Match tips kill a whole lot of game especially in a 338 not sure I would worry about it too much. You hit them where you are supposed to and they will drop especially on deer.

I shoot both the 300 Hybrid tactical and Elite hunters and have found that although they are supposed to be ballisticlly basically the same I get better groups with a given charge weight with the hunters than I do with the OTMs. I have 100 of the hunters left that I'm saving for hunting season this year but if all that were available were the OTMs I'd have no problems shooting an animal with the 300s. That much bullet is going to make one hell of a wound cavity when it hits.

BTW, you said you "don't want it to be explosive". The hunters are designed to start shedding weight upon impact whereas the OTM will hold together all they way through. Personally I'm all about the explosive effects inside the animal at range as I want as much of the energy of that round transferred into the animal as possible. My only concern with the OTMs is not leaving a big enough hole on the back side so if the animal doesn't go down and stay down it's hard to track. But from what I've seen this hasn't been an issue with the OTMs. Especially if you hit bone.

I've been hunting the last few years with 6.5x 284 Norma shooting the berger vld hunting bullets . My boy also shoots them in a 708 and the deer that were shot at say 200 to 400 died immediate or never went over 10 yds. Deer inside 100 to 150 have been knocked down got up and ran off with no or little sign of blood. I'm assuming there was no exit hole. I think there performance are better down range. With that being said a 338 on deer size game should not be a provlem

Not for Alaska!

Certainly, but keep in mind people have used 30-06's and every manner of surplus military rifles to kill game and protect
Themselves up there. In some cases the
Bullets holding together would be a good thing as far as penetration on dangerous
Game.

I guess I would recommend Berger hunting
Line if you are really concerned.

I am just saying that the .338 lapua is a powerful place to start regardless of projectile so long as legal and hp are legal in all states I know of.

I shot my first bear with a .340 weatherby, a ballistic twin to the lapua, and it was drt.

I must be missing something.........the 300gr Accubond is pretty similar to the SMK or Scenar in the ballistic department; what the bullet does after impact is a totally different story. Inside 1000 yds there won't be much difference in POI.
