I was looking at the vortex viper pst 6-24x50 and its around 1k, but the thing is I'm too young to have a job (please no hate about my age) and It would take me longer to get it. So I have been thinking about a swfa ss 16x42 and get some good rings and a good base to go with it. But if I get a vortex I kinda have to go budget with the base a little and then get high end rings. So its either 600 total for swfa ss or 1300 for vortex? Is it really worth double the price for it? I would like to be able to change magnification. So please help me on options and if your going to offer a option please support with detail instead of something like "schmit and bender pm2 is what I went with"

Its awesome that you are starting out young, no hating that. The PST is miles above the fixed SS but, not a comparable pairing due to the drastic differences. I'd look diligently for a used PST. I sold mine for under 800 lightly used so a deal can be had. If still not in your budget, look at the Vortex Viper (non PST) 6.5-20x44/50. A touch more than a SS but more versatile. Decent glass, good turrets, repeatable dialing.

Look at the vortex viper (not the pst) it's like 6.5-20something and is available in a 44 or 50mm objective. It's available for around $450-550 I do believe. Very solid optic with really decent glass for the money. The Vortex HS got good reviews, but seems a lot have hit the market lately. Probably depends on what a person is going to do with it. The PST is a fantastic choice. Maybe the new 3-15 SWFA or Weaver ffp. I went with the 3-12 bushnell ffp and its around the same price as the PST.

Another to consider for a budget is the Falcon:
Falcon Menace 4-14x44 Tactical 30mm Riflescope

For the most part, guys seem happy with them for the price. They have the added benefit of Front focal plane and are mil/mil. Always have to make compromises on a budget, and I think the Falcons do pretty well with balancing them. They have 26 mils of adjustment and the B20 reticle had 10 mils of holdover too. Most guys report good durability and tracking, a few have had issues though. The SS 16x would be a hi value also if you can live with fixed power, I personally like to be able to dial back sometimes. If you thought you could live with a 10x top end, the Weaver GS tactical 3-10x from Midwayusa is very hard to beat for 3bills. That awesome you are getting out and shooting and assembling a great rig at your age! keep it up.

thanks for the option I will look into it. Also thanks because sometimes people like to troll for no reason even though its good for kids to get into firearms. (if mature enough) Also I do have a good amount of experience with guns since I started shooting at 3 and got my first gun at 3 so I have 11 years I guess.

I think it's awesome that you are getting into this at an early age. there is lots to learn about this sport and I continue to learn something new everyday. So starting young is a great thing. I have both the Vortex viper and the Viper PST SFP. Both have really good glass/features for their price point and if you opt for the PST in SFP it goes for around $750. There is also a used one on the Hide right now for sale going for $700.
