just got back my 700 rem-age project from H&M

this was is when i 1st got it.. a 308

this was it after i tore the old BBL off and replaced with a rem-age CBI 260 match 24" and PTG bolt
and had Dan over at Darkeagle Custom, Inc. Trued receiver lugs, face of receiver – cleaned gunk out of threads and chased with a tap, faced nut, and cut notch in receiver to lock recoil lug

after breaking in the throat with 40 rounds, i pulled it back apart and dropped it off at H&M Welcome to H & M Metal Processing

the action even with 0 oil on it is smooth as glass...

i just head spaced it and put it back together, and im on the way to the range to work a load up as soon as i finish posting this...

What is the attribute of the 700 action and setup (non Remage as well) that makes them more desirable over "bolt nut" guns? Is it the ability to be more "concentric" from boltface to bore because the action and Barrell are mated without the opposing torque of a barrel nut?

I'm getting into the same boat. I love my savages, I like doing my own barrel changes and am right now working on converting my Remmy 700 to a barrel nut. I do like the action on my remington a little better - makes it the best of both worlds....

Question for the OP...

did you have to have the McRee's stock opened up for the remage barrel nut?

No advantage to not using the nut other then looks...
And not have to pay a smith 300$ to do the same work I can do at home for free...
Also, I can set the head space to dead zero

As u can see by the test targets it shoots quite well even with those fast loads that made up. Could I tweak it and make it shoot even better? maybe, but I'm not building a bench rest gUn
