I am wondering if any manufactures a Rem 700 lug in a 1.35" diameter, same as the action?

I am thinking of building a rifle with the reciver, recoil lug and barrel, all with the same diameter. Looking like its in one piece.

Has anybody done this before? How did it turn out? Prefrebly blued lug, not stainless.

Concentricty issues would make that difficult. The easier approach would be to get an action with an integral recoil lug and match the barrel to the action. even then there would be some work involved.

+1 on what Dave said.

Also I would ask. What are you looking to do in the end? If it's just for cosmetics seems like a lot of work just so everything looks the same diameter wise.

I have used like a Tubb lug and made the breech end of the barrel 1.300" diameter and once it's assembled in the stock it almost looked like the breech end of the barrel was the same size of as the receiver. The threads of the barrel for the action were still a standard thread size.

Again you could use a large lug or make a lug so it's basically the same size of the receiver and you could get a barrel made with a 1.350" diameter (measure your receiver as well. They could vary a few thou. on the o.d.) so it all looks the same but again it would be purely cosmetic. It won't shoot any better. The larger barrel diameter you will pay an extra charge for as well. So with the extra cost involved and time it won't gain you anything in my book.

Its just cosmetics.. its going to be a bench/varmint rifle, so I would like to "hide" the one thing I dislike about the Rem 700 & clone actions, the recoil lug.

Here is a thread on another forum, that some did to a Cooper rifle, even though they dont have the washer type lug: Cooper Arms LST - RimfireCentral.com Forums

It just looks nicer, and I would easely "eat" the cost for a thicker barrel.
