All 30rounds are no further than 2.25" from dead center of bullseye to dead center of bullet hole!!! This will produce a 4.5" (about ~ 1.4327moa) circle around dead center bullseye. If you think you made it this far, then please provide additional caliper pic of your single most furthest bullet hole from dead center bullseye (out of the 30 bullet holes, pick the bullet hole that is furthest from bullseye, and provide picture from dead center bulls to dead center bullet hole... easy as that!) This might sound easy if it was just a single 5shot group or with a bolt action, but times that by 6 total groups OR shooting ALL 30 bullets through a 4.5" (1.4327moa) circle @ 300yards with a semi-auto! Same as shooting 30rounds through a 1.5" circle at 100yards OR 30rounds on a 15" steel plate @ 1000yards (with no wind / mirage obviously, LOL)!!!! I thought this would be really fun for the SEMI-AUTO platform shooters to really show off your bad A$$ rifles and sniper's hide shooting skills in the SEMI-AUTO community. This is the big boy, 300yard, 6groups, 5shots each, 30 total rounds SHOOTOUT!!

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="color: #FF6666">HERE ARE THE GUIDELINES TO POST:</span></span></span>

1.) <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">At 300yards</span></span> (please be honest about this 300yards), all 6 groupings, 5shots each, 30 total bullets (no more, no less)... All consecutively shot!!! Must be on one target..... What ever size target you think you can get 6 groups @ 5shots each on.... <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">Can NOT be on individual targets.</span></span> MUST BE on one target with 6 total groupings, 5shots each, 30 total bullets. That's it!! Shoot as fast or slow as you want, but must be shot within that day (AKA, all day long)!!... If your one piece of paper / cardboard doesn't have 30 bullet holes, it doesn't count..... Bullet holes must be easy to see in your picture!! This is NOT about bullseyes!! All about grouping size average and your best group size!! All in good fun people... .25" or 5",, show off your skills baby! Just try your best! Everyone is welcome here regardless of skill! It's all SEMI-AUTO rifle cool baby!

2.) Can be any caliber Bolt-Action type platform. 308, 223, 260, 30-06, what ever. SEMI-AUTO ONLY!!!

3.) Can use any type factory or reloaded ammo. What ever works best for your SMEI-AUTO rifle.

4.) cough, <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">honestly measure with calipers </span></span>the distance of your two furthest bullet holes of each 5shot groupings (((center to center of each bullet hole))) and <span style="font-weight: bold">write this measurement IN LARGE FONT BLACK MAGIC MARKER right next to each grouping (6 total measurements). </span>

5.) <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">Post close up picture of your best SINGLE group</span></span> WITH CALIPERS showing the measurement!! <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">MUST BE WITH CALIPERS!! NO RULERS ALLOWED!!</span></span> If you don't have calipers, then go buy some. They are only $20 bucks!! Sheesshh, stop being such as cheap A$$ !! JK... Please be honest with your measurements!!! No coins or objects for scale!!! Just hard core measurements.

6.) <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">Post picture of entire target showing all 6 groupings / measurements with calipers still on your best grouping!!</span></span> NO picture, then it didn't happen!!

7.) <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">In your posting</span></span>, add up all 6 measurements and divide by 6 for your average MOA shot. Example: 3.198 + 1.997 + 3.274 + 2.823 + 1.933 + 2.720 = 15.945 / 6groups = 2.6575 average!! (2.6575 / 3.141 = .8461MOA)

8.) <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Please, be honest!!!</span></span></span>

9.) <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">If you do reload, feel free to post your load specs!</span></span>

10.) <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Post what type of SEMI-AUTO rifle, ammo used, and how you took your shots (prone, bench, bipod, sandbags used, blah blah blah)...</span></span>........ <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">No lock down gun vises!! NO BENCHREST VISES!!! </span></span>Sandbags front & rear are ok, bipods are ok, monopods are ok.... If you are using a vise or adjustable bench rest, then you are not really shooting the damn rifle and a monkey can shoot the rifle for you.</span>

11.) Please post a picture of your rifle with your entry!!!!

12.) there is NO SUCH THING AS "FLYERS" in this shootout.. any possible "flyers" you might have count as your group!! damn those flyers!!!

13.) Please put the type of rifle, your sniper's hide name, and date you <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">consecutively shot</span></span> at the top of your target!

14.) As long as you follow the rules, have 6 groups @ 5shots each / 30 total bullets only, then feel free to post your results regardless of your average / single group size even if you don't make the leader boards!! You can not have multiple rankings / measurements on the leader boards,,,, <span style="font-weight: bold">only your best entry will make the boards with your one rifle</span>.... You can however, have multiple leader-board entries by using two completely different bolt-action rifles. In short, you can make as many attempts as you want with your rifle in order to improve your standing on the boards / get the best possible outcome with your rifle... no limits on entries..... the only way to be on the boards more than once at the same time is to use two different rifles.... Rock out as many SEMI-AUTO rifles / entries as you want. Time to bust out that SEMI-AUTO collection!! All info is good info. Each rifle is different, has different optics, has different purpose, and different operators!!!! Be respectful of everyone's postings! Sub MOA or not, show off your rifle and skills! This is all in good fun!

15.) In the event of a tie value between multiple people, the first person to post wins.

16.) Only M.E.O.C.W. gauntlet test targets are allowed to have more than 30bullet holes in order to save time, bullets, and targets for perfecting your powder drop loads while also producing multiple entries on one pc of target paper for these shootout threads. IF and only IF, with a SEMI-AUTO, you get ALL 6 total groups, 5shots each, consecutively shot in one day of shooting, AT or UNDER .5 MOA (1.5705") ON EACH GROUP @ 300yards, THEN you will get the esteemed title of, "This person, (your name), with this SEMI-AUTO rifle, (type/brand of rifle), shoots .5 MOA @ 300YARDS ALL DAY LONG" on the original post!!!! You will be required to have caliper measurements with pics ON EACH GROUP if you think you made it this far!! No cheaters or you will be called out if anything looks fishy... Until then, you are mostly just full of BS! </span></span>

it's actually my 100yard entry... i'm just using it as an example for how people should make their entry posts.... i would be crazy happy if I was able to do the same at 300yards!

Shot with my with my 24" DPMS LR-65 @ 300yards with harris bipod with claws front & rear bag prone on mat.
6.5 Creedmoor cartridge
Average was 2.496"
Best group was 1.338"
Rifle used = 24" bull barrel DPMS LR-65
Optics = Leupold scope 8.5-25x50
Mount = DTA mount 20 moa
PRS stock, Tubb spring, JP trigger, 1" stock extender, a piece that moves the grip back about an inch, JP adjustable gas block, Phase 5 ambi bolt catch, Fulton Armory ambi charging handle latch

Shot with some reloads a friend made with some of my Hornady brass. I don't have much for data in my hands other than that these are 142g SMK's. Seems to shoot similar to new Hornady 140 Amax's.

2.409 + 2.909 + 3.721 + 2.718 + 1.879 + 1.338 = 14.974 / 6 = 2.496 average over 6 groupings @ 5shots each / 30 total bullets

Best 1.338

You need to have your caliper on your smallest group in your full target pic also or he wont count it! You might want to edit that pic.

But, I have to ask for a correction. I think the honorable mention requires that every target has a group of less than an MOA, and I didn't shoot under an MOA on target three. I wanna get there, but I didn't do it on this target.

I don't know whether I'm going to play on this one. To take all day and not use the capabilities of a semi-auto in a pure accuracy test with nothing else...??? My attention span for that is about twenty shots for record. 600-yard line and the occasional 1,000-yard match.

I shot prone using a front bipod and a rolled up sweat shirt for a rear bag(forgot bag at home).

LOL, as for my group above that is 3.274.... I was pumped with the group until I took the 5th shot and it shanked friggen 3" to the right making it 3.274"!!! grrr... for a second there I thought I was going to walk away with a .75" / .25moa ish size group... Oh well, all part of the fun.

No shit during this 30round entry, I had a group of deer run right past my scope view. If the first deer that ran past my line of fire was about 1 second faster my bullet would've tagged him easy. All I was thinking was DAMN, I ALMOST shot that f#cking deer! LOL.... Didn't realize there was a herd of deer running through my shooting lane until the first deer ran past my scope view. Just think if I did tag that first deer... How the hell do you explain that one to the DNR warden / range master. LOL.... "well, see.... the deer honestly ran thru my line of fire just as I pulled the trigger, HONESTLY!". LOL!

lol, I tried this again with my RRA and I had a stupid small group of 1.852 ( 1.852 / 3.141 = .5896moa) but my dumb ass F#CKING shot two groups (10 total shots) on one target because I was smoking crack I guess. LOL!! Making my whole target / entry a moot issue. Can't see those .224 size holes at 300yards with a regular scope..... Live and learn I guess.... or maybe just pull head out of ass! LOL! I honestly don't know what the hell I was thinking...

I just posted this on the 100yard thread, so I figured I would post this here also. Not everyone has a 500-1000yard range available to them, so this can be a great way of pushing yourself even further with your semi-auto with the limited amount of shooting space you're working with... I'm not saying I know everything, and hell.... I'm still learning as I go here, but I try my best.

For those new to sniper's hide and even new to semi-auto AR shooting in general... These "6group 30round shootout" threads (100yard and now 300yard) were actually started to shut up the "I shoot .5moa all day long" people, but in all actuality they are a great way to learn your "fundamentals" like trigger control, cheek weld, scope shadow, breathing, blah blah blah WHILE giving you an "idea" of what your rifle is capable of in terms of accuracy... The "shootout threads" are great for load development also...... BUT!!!! The only downfall to these "shootout threads" is they do absolutely jack shit for ballistics and learning how the bullet is effected during flight by atmospheric conditions like wind / altitude / humidity / temperature / blah blah blah.... Yes, they are great to give you an "idea" of how accurate your rifle can be at 100yards OR how accurate a particular load development might be,,,,, BUT you might want to push yourself even further during the 300yard shootout by going not only for small ass groups, BUT going for bullseye also!!!.... Anyone can point at a target and shoot for small ass groups, but to get dead center bullseye while doing it is a whole different matter. It is where science and art-form come together...... 300yards is by no means "long distance" shooting, but for some people it is what they are limited to so try using your ballistic calculators & making adjustments BETWEEN GROUPS to get dead center bulls (better yet, before you start your 30rounds!).... Just another way to push yourself even further with your semi-auto and the limited amount of shooting space you're working with. If you're new to all of this you would be amazed how much mirage you might run into during this 300yard test on a hot summer day making it really hard to see your target,,,, or how much even a sporadic 5mph wind can effect your bullet flight by a couple inches making a HUGE difference on IF your group size is under or over sub-moa!! Not reading the wind correctly (the biggest factor other than gravity duh!),,, even at 300yards, can make the difference if you make the top ten or not... I sure as hell don't know everything, but I try my best to learn as I go. It is all part of the fun. You can't always blame the rifle! ; )

Just an FYI peps... I just added a BULLSEYE BONUS to this thread only... Just a little something to get you all on the right track towards long range shooting & a little more fun to this game especially for those that are limited to 300yards or less. I totally understand from PM's that not everyone has 500yard plus ranges in their local area.... This will produce a 4.5" (1.4327moa) circle bullseye @ 300yards. On a no wind day (which damn near never happens, but for pure example purposes),,,, this would be close to shooting 30rounds through a 1.5" circle at 100yards OR 30rounds at a 15" plate at 1000yards! I think this will make a challenging, but possible goal for most people with a precision type semi-auto. I came close to this on my last Rock River Arms entry listed above (4 out of 6 groups for sure, and one other group was really close also so damn near 5 out of 6), so if I can came close to doing this, then this should be really easy for most people and an additional goal to work towards other than just "shooting small ass groups"...

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="color: #CC6600"> ((((( 300 YARD !!! ))))) BULLSEYE BONUS!!! All 30rounds are no further than 2.25" from dead center of bullseye to dead center of bullet hole!!! This will produce a 4.5" (about ~ 1.4327moa) circle around dead center bullseye. If you think you made it this far, then please provide additional caliper pic of your single most furthest bullet hole from dead center bullseye (out of the 30 bullet holes, pick the bullet hole that is furthest from bullseye, and provide picture from dead center bulls to dead center bullet hole... easy as that!) This might sound easy if it was just a single 5shot group or with a bolt action, but times that by 6 total groups OR shooting ALL 30 bullets through a 4.5" (1.4327moa) circle @ 300yards with a semi-auto! Same as shooting 30rounds through a 1.5" circle at 100yards OR 30rounds on a 15" steel plate @ 1000yards (with no wind / mirage obviously, LOL)!!!! Mix in some wind and a little mirage at 300yards and it is rather hard, but obtainable! </span></span></span>

I got 15 dollars in best buy reward points so i picked up a 15dollar ipad app store card and purchased the ballistic app for my ipad mini... Its kinda pricey but it looks like a bad ass ballistics calculator and was pretty much free after my reward zone points.... Im kinda a chaep ass that way... Looking forward to testing it out!

Wow... So i have been playing around with this new IOS "ballistic" app for my ipad mini and once you get it set up with the correct information it was spot on for what i was using for the shots / dope i took above at 300 yards... It really is fun now that my reloading knowledge is coming together with my knowledge about rifles and scopes. One important part to the program is to make sure you measure the sight Height of the rifle being used.... How i did this was to pull the bolt back with an empty mag which holds the bolt face open..... Then take calipers and measure the distance of the firingpin hole to the middle of the scope... Your output on the app will be all f$cked up until you enter this correct measurement.... All of my AR's that are running scopes pretty have a 2.8" sight height. Once i got that entered into the program along with other info like the FPS at the muzzle (from my hornady reloading book dependant upon power drop reloaded at but chronograph would be best = another friggen purchase), bullet being used, fact my rifle is zerod at 100yards, elevation, humidity, Temperature, blah blah blah.... You can check your shooting range elevation with another ipad app called simply "elevation" which is like google maps and you can pin point anywhere in the world and it will tell you the elevation (and its free!). This elevation program will also save your pin point elevation information for when you dont have wifi. Also check your Atmospheric conditions like Barometric pressure and humidity on your Favorite weather website before you hit the range. I like to use weather underground and obviously the zip code of the shooting range. Im going to a 600yard range next weekend and im pumped to give it a try. Now i just need to hook up with a kestrel or some way to check the wind without spending my Inheritance. Another purchase, yeah!

DUDE!!! HONESTLY!! I came one f#cking bullet short by about .25" of getting the bullseye bonus as listed on the OP!!!!!!! WTF!!! G.O.T.T.O.B.E.K.I.D.D.I.N.G.M.E!!!!!

I was on fire today after shooting the M.E.O.C.W. gauntlet test on the 100yard thread and then shooting this. Between the 100yard test and this 300yard test with my LMT MWS 7.62, I shot a total of 18 total groups or 90 total rounds. 15 out of 18 groups was sub-moa,,,,,, and 85 out of 90 shots was within group sub-moa center... Something was in my coffee this morning.

I like the results of varget much much more in comparison to the RE-15

Sooooo, I took my DPMS 3G1 / 1-4 pst vortex scope with capped turrets with me today to do this 300yard shootout thread test.... I used a 2'x3' white target like I usually do with HUGE 6" shoot-n-see targets. Even on 4x power my middle dot aim point reticle covered the ENTIRE 6" shoot-n-see target at 300yards... I didn't even take a shot as I was thinking in my head there is no way in hell I'm going to get sub-moa groups with 4x power and I wasn't even going to waste the ammo / money... so I will still do this, but I'll need to come up with a better target to get this done with a 4x scope at 300yards.... I should've used my criss/cross tape target like I usually do with low power scopes and red dots, but I had no tape on me... Oh well, next time ill get this done with maybe some 3" wide tape criss/crossed.

Whoa . . . I did not see this. Holy cow! Where can I get some of that "Sniper 5000" for MY coffee? Jeez that's some nice shooting, and all clustered
around the bull. The only semi 7.62 I have is my M21. Nice rifle, but in my hands it's 1.5 MOA with FGMM 168s. I'll take it out this week.

I think I need to start reloading. . . .

O.K. I'm in on this.

Consider my entry an inspirational addition to encourage others to give the 300 yard
challenge a try. 3.7" average isn't very intimidating. Although 1.17 MOA sounds a lot better!
I didn't bring my Federal GMM because I was testing some new Norma .308 stuff and I decided
to go for it. I think it turned out pretty well for an M1A platform with me shooting. This is the new baseline
for this rifle. This rifle has shot sub MOA at 200 yards on several occasions, but not at 300. Had a blast.

Rifle Used Was Springfield Armory M1A/M21 Using Front and Rear Bags
Barrel: 22" Krieger Match
Optics: Bushnell 3.5-30X50 Set at 21X
Mount: Bassett Low Rise Detachable
Ammunition: Norma Commercial 168gr Match SMK

Average: 3.702" (3.702/3.141 = 1.178 MOA)
Best Group: 3.449" (3.449/3.141 = 1.098 MOA)

4.421 + 3.587 + 3.484 + 3.473 + 3.795 + 3.449 = 22.21/6 = 3.702" ave. (3.702/3.141 = 1.178 MOA)

Thanks. I guess I'll hang around the boards until another six guys enter. LOL. Although it's an iconic weapon with a feel all its own, I think shooting the M14/M1A platform is a bit tricky. Lots of moving parts banging around when you pull the trigger. There are guys who do it well, with iron sights no less, but you won't see many multiple targets posted (shot by an M1A) like the 30 shot challenge on these forums. I don't have that many rounds through it and today's entry was a great learning experience with the rifle.

I'm starting another .223 build with a 20" RRA Varmit Bull barrel, but who knows when
that will be finished. The wait for the barrel and upper is supposed to be 6 months or more. In the meantime I guess I'll have to
try my 16" RRA at 300 and see if I can do better. Heck, I have an old, but nice, stock pre-ban Colt HBAR Competition "hand select" that I might try too. I hardly ever shoot it but it's accurate once you get past the 6# trigger.

My range is nice, but it's an hour drive from my house. If you go 600 yards in the opposite direction from the targets you're in Mexico.

Triumph and Tragedy

First the Triumph: Took my M21 back to the range today for another go because a) it was so much fun last time and b) I felt good
about my learning curve two days ago and wanted to give it another shot. Went sub MOA overall and 3X out of six.
Conditions were pretty windy shifting every few minutes.
I don't think it affected my overall average, but it sure did push my groups around. In other words, I shot through it but
couldn't "dope" it.

Now the tragedy: I brought my Pre-Ban "hand selected" stock Colt HBAR Competition M6700 and shot six groups during blustery conditions. It's really been a pretty accurate rifle. I wanted to put this old Colt on the boards while I still can. Things looked O.K. through the spotting scope, but its hard to see .223 holes at 300 yards with mirage. When I went out to check, two of the consecutive groups had blown right (the wind direction) and one group was hugging the right edge and one shot of that group was off the paper. I kid you not. Next time. LOL
