I have a 6-24 PST FFP that I bought used here on the forum about 1 1/2 years ago. The scope came to me same as new and I'm very pleased with the scope however I've started noticing black specs on the inside of the glass. I've read about this happening on some scopes however hadn't noticed this on mine until recently. Doesn't seem to hurt the view however I don't like seeing them there. I assume that if I send it back to the factory they can fix it however I'm not sure what it is. Is there a name or a term for this? Will this continue to get worse if I ignore it? Will it degrade the clarity of my view in the future?
Thanks.

didn't over torque the rings did you? anyway, just call vortex... they will replace it no questions asked. fully transferable warranty.

Specs aren't uncommon in FFP scopes because of how much the reticle is magnified. Even the smallest particles can look like a blob. Call Vortex and they'll get you squared away.

Haven't tried to get it to move by tapping the scope and I'm pretty sure it isn't dust and I bought a Borka torque wrench just to make sure my rings weren't over torqued when I installed it so that shouldn't be a problem. I've read about this with other brands of scopes but can't remember what causes it. I've been really pleased with the scope for the price point. Tracks good and repeats well. Plenty clear enough for the shooting I do. I've got to pull the barrel and action out next week to take to GAP and get the barrel threaded so I'll probably send it in then.

Had the same problem in my FFP PST scope. This was about 2 weeks ago. Had a black spec, which looked like a freakin school bus parked on the lense when at full magnification. It was rather tiny when you turned it down.

I tried tapping it,but that thing was on that lense and didnt want to come off. Sent into Vortex and they took care of it,cleaned it and sent it back to me within a week.

This is a fairly common problem and one not particular to Vortex.

You say you have read about this happening on some scopes. Perhaps while reading this you came across the phone book method of clearing these specks?

Vortex will happily fix it I am sure. Will they use a phone book???

Thanks for the replies. Vortex sent me a form a d told me to return it for repairs. Love the scope especially for the money and I'm pretty sure that the brand I read about before was a different, more expensive brand.

This thread is very coincidental...I just discovered last week that my 4-16 PST had several small, minuscule black spec's/debris inside the scope (one spec was large enough to see on the reticle while viewing through the ocular side). The others could only be seen by looking through the objective side against a white background.

Anyway, I called Vortex and advised them of my issue. They were very apologetic and told me not to worry they would take care of it. Within 30 minutes, I received a pre-paid FedEx label and a Product Repair Form through email. Printed off both, filled out the product repair form, boxed & dropped off everything @ FedEx last Wednesday, and today (5 business days later) FedEx just dropped off @ 2:30pm a brand new scope that is so crystal clear & sharp...for a minute there I thought it was a Razor.

As, stated above - Vortex is top notch & will take care of you. When I inquired w/customer service what it could be, they indicated that it's more than likely anodizing that's worked itself loose from inside the aluminum tube. I bet when you hear and/or read of this debris situation on other top end scopes such as, Nightforce, IOR, S&B, etc., it's a similar issue. I've checked my Nightforce & IOR scopes and they're still crystal clear (for now anyway).
