Gunsmithing AI AE and AICS stock guts

So, I have an AE in the 1.5 stock in 308. I have a 700 action that I want to buy an AI stock for. Can I buy the AICS in 2.0 and just switch them out? Are they the same inside except for the folding parts?

You could but you'd have to cut the skins around the hinge. Not to mention that i don't think you'll find anyone wanting to sell it that way. Your best bet is to probably just sell the whole 1.5 chassis and to buy a 2.0 chassis.

However with that being said what is the reason you want the hinge. Is it to make the gun smaller for storing in smaller places and smaller cases or is it to make life easier when cleaning and what not? If its to make life easier when cleaning all you need to do is buy some Victor Company accustack spacers and some thumb screws for the cheek rest and its just as fast to take the cheek piece off as to fold it over. It also becomes very simple to snap it back into place tighten the screws and you're back ready to go shoot.

I don't see how they could be the same and compatible as the actions are totally different, unless I am misreading the question.

RRW, that's probably the answer. Having not taken the chassis apart, I wasn't sure if they were the same on the exterior. Thanks
