While watching videos of recent matches I have seen several shooters rifle barrels that are left unblued, cerakoted, rattle canned, etc. What is the purpose other than no sense in spending the extra cash..... which doesn't make much sense to me considering the rifles already cost as much as cars on many cases, at least more than my beater car

barrels don't last as long as a stock or receiver, they do wear out and need to be replaced, the extra cash needed to flute, paint or whatever is a waste of money as it doesn't increase accuracy at all so why do it. Another reason is that on a one way range, camo the barrel is unnecessary.

Race cars or race guns do not get a $2 can of flat spray paint. (I guess that my depend on your flavor of racing though :)

That's funny, I am in the same state of mind. I figured as much that it just wasn't worth the time or effort to mess with it. Leadbullet, I agree that there is no need to have it finished when no one is shooting at you but I guess it's my ocd kicking in that I would not want it bare just a basic bluing would work for me. But I guess if I was burning through a barrel every six months or however fast they burn through them and paying 125 a pop for a cerakote job would get old quick.
