Looking at a Gamo BigCat break barrel pellet rifle with 1400ps and it has a bull barrel so how quiet would it be suppressed ? Just thinking outside the bow with all the ammo shortage of .22 ???

1400 fps(supersonic) is going to be loud. On cold mornings my old RWS Mod. 48 would go supersonic and it's shocking when you aren't expecting it.
If you shoot the heavy 10.3-10.5 grain .177 pellets it'll be around 950 to 1000 fps or so. Also more accurate and have a smoother firing cycle.
if you have the cash for a suppressor & stamps for a pellet rifle, try a PCP rifle in .17 .20 .22 or .25 cal.
actually i don't know if you need a stamp with a pellet rifle.
most of the gamos are based off the same powerplant / receiver, perhaps the whisper will do you better, or run a heavier pellet. the FPS may drop you into subsonic.

I have a suppressor just figured it would make a good host rifle and it would take some time to go thru say 25000 pellets. Wanting a self charging system , no compressed air or aux equipment , hence leaning towards a break barrel
Google the legal issues for a suppressor for a pellet gun. Best to have a stamp and go legal for a pellet gun. If the suppressor lowers the sound by even 1 DB (even of it is destroyed in one shot) you need to be legal.

With all due respect, sir, to the teriffic contributions you have made here on this Rimfire Subform, one most certainly does need a BATFE tax stamp with a can, even if it is used exclusively on an airgun.
There are some air rifles supplied with a suppressor permanently attached that do not require a tax stamp. Still others have a shroud that significantly reduces sound, and do not require a tax stamp.
I imagine it would be a little tricky to buy a suppressor for an air rifle and not buy the tax stamp, as based on my understanding of the rules it would be illegal until permanently attached to the air rifle. Maybe a licensed manufacturer would weld a suppressor to an air rifle barrel rather than sell you an unlicensed suppressor?

I'd almost imagine that it would need to be made for that gun. I really can't see the atf being cool with taking say...an swr specter and mounting it permanently on the barrel.

I have Suppressors , they are registered and taxed legal etc.... It does not matter what it is mounted on , the can is the only registered item I swap from rifle to rifle all the time Just wanted to know if an sir rifle is quieter due to no explosive charge used to fire the round

You realize that sound suppressors for real rifles are only suppressing the muzzle blast from the powder burning. You can't "suppress" the noise the spring in an air rifle makes when it unloads its energy, at least not with something hanging on the end of the barrel.
Perhaps in practice there is a slight reduction in noise from a little bit of air being trapped...

Get the barrel threaded 1/2-28 and send the rifle to me. I'll put a couple of different .22 suppressors on it and check the sound level. I'd be curious myself.

I think he's talking about air rifles, not spring rifles. I've heard air rifles shot that were every bit as loud as a centerfire. Suppressing air rifles is nothing new, which is why i'm a little confused as to the conjecture in this thread.
Ah I see, I saw the original poster ask about a gamo break barrel so that's what I was talking about.
Apparently I was not aware of the world of actual "air" rifles, I was always under the impression any high performance pellet gun was spring powered, I see that was an improper assumption.

The loudest thing about a 22 spring powered pellet rifle, at least the cheap GAMO I bought for fun (and which you seem to be considering), was the spring when subsonic. A suppressor wouldn't do crap for that. Also I hated it immediately for inaccuracy. Hoser's PCP, on the other hand, looks accurate, quiet, and sexy but of course pricey. Maybe another break barrel besides GAMO. I don't want to see you wasting money on a GAMO.
I will say that my Air Arms TX200 is spring powered, and is significantly quieter to shoot with the barrel shroud installed than with it off. Many air rifle manufacturers, whether spring-powered or PCP, do sell air rifles with permanently attached suppressors or shrouds that reduce the sound output relative to non-suppressed versions.
Come to think of it, my "rifle" did have a barrel shroud and that probably reduced the sound. I think my memory is biased because I hated the sound and inaccuracy. It went quickly on my POS-waste-of-money shelf, along with a couple cheap scopes, a lesson to buy once, cry once. I hate GAMO. Never buy GAMO.

Well as much as I hate to I may look into a reservoir type saw some that come with a manual pump I don't want to have to meds with filling bottles

If the device can be used on a firearm to reduce the sound level, it's an NFA item.
This question was posed to the BATFE regarding "silencers" for paintball guns. The BATFE took one of the detachable style paint ball silencers and fired a .22 through it and got a 7 dB noise reduction, and therefore determined it was an NFA item.
The paintball gun manufacturers got around this ruling by making the silencer integral to the paintgun barrel. Because it's permanently attached to the paintgun barrel, the BATFE said it would not be deemed an NFA item.
So, any device that suppresses an air gun that can be (is capable of being) placed on a firearm and used to suppress the report is an NFA item.
Altnews & starbuck, thanks for the clearing up, powder burners is a no brainer, but didn't know the particulars on air pushers.
^ can't go wrong with pyramid air, or airgun depot, even amazon, champion shooters has some high end stuff. they all have a good selection of PCP, springers, co2, and nitro pistons. some run refurb deals, shipping deals, etc. also look / google for coupon / discount codes to use, there's usually a 10% or free shipping one out there somewhere.
if you go with an optic, make sure it's airgun rated, especially on the springers and nitro pistons - they tear up regular rifle scopes.

I have a nitro piston from benjamin that has a sound suppressor on it and its perfectly legal here in NY...which we all know is the worst state for shooting sports!! It is pretty darn quiet and is very accurate out to 50 yards. paid $150 total on sale which i thought was a good deal. The gun has a very solid feel and good break barrel. No complaints here.
When I used to work in a gun shop (in the UK) I used a pre-charged air rifle to demonstrate the effectiveness of active ear defenders, so you can imagine how loud that has to be. The same guns were virtually undetectable with a cheap moderator. So yes with a pre-charged air rifle a moderator could even be accurately called a silencer.-
I'm not sure if you can get the Weihrauch moderators out there, but that would be my suggestion, they were better than all of the others we sold. They are also cheap (before your tax stamp)

I wouldn't spend money trying to quiet a gamo rifle (or really any spring powered gun). Yes it will be quieter, but you'll never hush the guts hitting the end of the stroke. I dont know what your budget is, but a talon or condor (normally sound like s 22 rimfire) with a tony shroud is DEAD silent. You hear the impact and thats about it. My air wolf mct wears a pag shroud and its dead quiet too.
