Not a new idea. I've been doing it for years. Just figured I would post and maybe help someone out. Sorry for crappy cell phone pics. They are good enough for purpose but that's about it 
If you want or need a low profile gas block for your AR15 or Ar10 and you already have a standard one piece front sight/ gas block assy this may be for you.
I cut the upper of the front sight and bayo lug and ears for sling swivel off on a band saw. I did one with a hacksaw before but it took much longer.
Grind shape on top and bottom on a grinding wheel. Used a dremel tool for this before also.
Debur part. i rounded all edges with a deburring wheel on a grinder. Gets hot quick. It works quick though.
Installed and painted. Plenty of room in under my new longer free float tube.
