I need to ship a rifle off to the gunsmith, but I am struggling with what to ship it in. It will be shipped assembled, but it is not my main rig so I don't want to go all out and get a form fitted foam pelican case. I am simply looking for some slim single rifle hardcase that doesn't look like a rifle case.

What do you guys use to ship your rifles?

Why can it not look like a rifle case? If you are shipping it then it will need to be in a box also or wrapped in cardboard, in which case who cares what it looks like? Any cheap hard case with foam that will accommodate the O.A.L. of the finished rifle will work.

I would just get a
cheep case like this.
RedHead® Single Scoped Rifle Case | Bass Pro Shops
Pull the bolt and bubble wrap it separate and place it back in the case with the rifle also in bubbel wrap.
(This way the bolt is not trying to bust through the case all the way to its destination.)
Tape the latches of the case close.

Now find a large cardboard and cut it down until the case will fix inside it.
It matters not how this cardboard looks its just added insurance the rifle will arrive still inside the case

There is nothing that says it can't look like a rifle case, I was just hoping for a rectangular case for ease of wrapping. =P

Thanks for the redhead link, that looks like just the thing I was hoping for.

You could always build a case out of 1/4" plywood and 1x2" wood. Then staple on your cardboard 'coverings' and ship that way.

I guess it all depends on how much money you have to spend, what you are shipping and other resources you may or may not have.

LWRCi ships their rifles out in foam and two cardboard boxes (inner & outer cardboard).

I don't like those cheap cases, cause I got one with a Mosin nagant (at $20 the case was worth half as much as the rifle!) and it was dropped in the winter and the case shattered and the mosin barrel was poking out of the case & cardboard...

Best of luck,

Will

If you order an inexpensive case from someplace like Cabelas, Gander, Bass Pro, etc, you will get it in a cardboard box.

Put rifle in case, case in box, ship.
