I have my heart set on getting a nsx f1 for my new 6.5cm that longrifle has in their loving care. i'm just having a hard time swallowing the price. I have the money ready to go I am just going crazy with this decision.

I remember when I was like that. It was my first time. Now, I have an F1, 2 NXS and a BEAST on order. It gets easier every time. Do it!
Just do it and stop over thinking it. Sure, it will sting a little at first but once you have it in your possession you'll be so glad you spent the money. When I bought my first NXS, I couldn't believe I was spending so much money for a damn scope but since then I've bought four or five others.
ok one more question the lv.5 reticle says its designed for specific calibers. does that mean they make it to my round or its already made for certain rounds?
That pretty much says it all, doesn't it? If it's something that you feel is affordable, then do it!

IMO, you'd be better-served with a generic mil-based reticle and a custom drop table for your particular rifle/ammo combination.

I have an F1 that I am selling, it is over on the optics for sale thread. MLR reticle and mil adjustments. Shoot me a pm if you are interested. Buying a gently used scope may take some of the agony away from buying sticker price!

One way to easily justify your optic purchase is, how much did the rifle cost? I know some people don't mind dropping $3k+ on a rifle and then not spend more than $500 on a scope and they fail to realize that the scope is typically more of a limiting factor than the rifle. I personally don't believe it gets any better than an F1, they are tough as nails and have all the features one could want.
I agree on the buying used, I would just make sure it has matching knobs and reticle (most of them do) and try to get one with hispeed knobs (not a must though). I'd personally pass on the velocity reticles, I used them and wasn't impressed, they were fine for 600 yards and in but beyond that they didn't match up well enough and you still needed a chart with hold references. The chart needed to be more detailed and specific as well, not a simple dial/hold X.X mil for XXX yards. The reticle also doesn't work with the knobs since there is no accurate graduations. I'd be looking for either the MLR, MLR2, or MLR2.0 reticle with matching MRAD/MIL knobs.

Well 565fitter, I've been there myself. I just couldn't see laying out twice as much cash for a scope over my rifle. But I did. I bought my first Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50mm
for my first .308. It killed me to spend that much on glass. But I will tell you it was the best decision I ever made. I've gone on to buy several more NF scopes.
My latest is the ATACR for my new .338 LM build.
Very durable. This glass enables me to shoot 1 mile plus with my .338LM. I don't think you'll regret the investment. It's the old "Buy Once, Cry Once" mantra.

But seriously, I think we all had some type of trepidation buying our first expensive piece of glass. But as others have said, if you settle for anything less than what you have your heart set on, you're just going to end up spending even more money in the long run. And so long as you're not blowing the mortgage payment on your intersts, you might as well take the plunge. With high end stuff, I prefer to think of my toys as investments (or capital in another form).
Hey 565Fitter.... right there with you brother. I have not only been going back and forth on the same issue with $'s but have narrowed it down to that particular scope - NF F1. You have through this thread and the great responses pushed me over the edge in a positive way to lay down the dollars. Good coaching from redneckbmxer224!
I've a brand new, in the box NXS F1 3-15 for sale. Retail is $2547.00 I'll take $2000 for this scope that has never been mounted on a rifle if you haven't found what you're looking for.
Really? Did you research and see if there weren't something better? That's a lot of money to toss out there when there could be something better.
Just kidding, busting balls. I hope your new toy is everything you could hope it would be.
You won't regret your decision. All of us struggle at first with scope prices, but quality scopes can truly make your rifle much more accurate and easier to use without the headaches and down time when a failure occurs (even if minor). Good luck and have fun-that's what it's all about in the end anyway!
565fitter I was in the same as you and decided to buy once cry once. So I went and purchased the ATACR for a new 300 build.
